He's not in the minority.....It's just that the vast majority just can't be bothered to say anything or do anything to get rid of an institution that in our times should not exist, Royal by its definition is basically saying that they are superior to everyone else, which they most certainly are not, everything handed to them on a plate for what reason exactly ?

Far better to get rid of the lot and stop funding such pompous rubbish and fund what we really need ,with proper funding for such as the NHS and care sectors with wages that reflect the job that they do and really deserve !!

There will be far more people who won't be watching the funeral than those that will , but that won't be mentioned to those that are blinkered and brainwashed into thinking exactly what the establishment want them to !!

Not sure about the majority/ minority argument

However, it appears that many folks are happy to stick with the status quo because they are fearsome of the alternative

Whilst I am by no means a royalist - I was after all brought up in the People's Republic of South Yorkshire, or the West Riding as it was known in those days (yes, I really am that old) - I cannot but admire the queen. She promised to serve the country to the best of her abilities no matter how long or short her life and she did. How many politicians could be judged by how well they kept their promises? I agree the monarchy is an outdated institution - why should they hold power and sway just because their ancestors clobbered mine in the year 900 and frozen to death? But the queen was a special individual whose selfless devotion to duty I can only respect. I doubt I shall have the same respect for any of the others and look forward to their abolition but respect to the queen and may she rest in peace.

I watched a recording of the Accession event yesterday. Intriguing in its weirdness and whacky pageantry but on the whole what people - particularly those from other countries - expect to see when they think of English-ness.

When the Queen was in her role doing this kind of thing she personified dignity and solemnity. Charles doesn’t quite have the stature to carry it off for me - but let’s see if he can grow into it.

His rather pompous air and need to flick through the program of events did not help endear him to me and I’m sure others: his impatient, testy flapping at the staff who had tried to replace the signing pens for the oaths reminded me much more of his father than his mother and immediately reignited my fear that he is just not cut out for this job.

He has a lot to learn.

You can learn quite a bit about people and how they treat their staff .

That said it's a difficult time for him so I'd be tempted to offer the benefit of the doubt , then again I haven't held a position where staff arranged my pens so who knows .

This is the man some people on here want to rule over them and be loyally subservient towards. Fascinating.
