Sigh, what is it with you guys and facts. I guess UK bashing is much easier when you just ignore the facts - there is more than enough information out there to have a right good go at Westminster without making stuff up!!!

The French electricity/gas combined costs would have increased 120% but the Government have opted to intervene to limit increases to 4% (quote from French Prime Minister on Wednesday). I don't have the split between gas and electricity but I might guess that gas will be more than 120% up and electricity less due to their much greater nuclear power generation than the UK has (we produce much more of our electricity from gas).

On August 3rd Reuters reported that German gas prices are up 184% over the last year. The German Government have introduced a $65Bn plan to mitigate the price increase - just as the UK Government has done - but have also introduced a levy on each household of 500 Euros that will have to be paid to cover the cost of replacing Russian gas over the next two years

It wouldn't surprise me if the UK gas price has increased a bit more than Germany or France as we have much less gas storage than they both do (that is certainly a point worth bashing the UK Government over) so are more exposed to buying gas on the wholesale market, which is much more expensive than buying gas by contract

Nobody in the UK will be paying 215% more for energy due to the various mitigations introduced by the UK Government although one can debate whether they have done enough. You can also debate whether the relief should have been much better targeted at the poorer households than it has been, and let the better off households eat into their disposable income/savings more as they can afford it. But there is no free lunch here, every pound that is used to subsidise today's energy user has to be paid for by tomorrow's tax payer

As I said, fill your boots in UK bashing as there is plentiful ammunition out there, but don't just throw out made up numbers - facts are still important, even in this day and age!!

What was it Mason said a day or so ago about twitter driving the news and people believing any old sh1t posted???

UK bashing ! Oh ma hoorin sides, Im sure if you look at various surveys about equality and quality of life indexes the UK will come very near the bottom. UK households struggle with the highest food and diesel prices in Europe, while petrol, alcohol and cigarettes cost more than the average on the continent and that is a FACT ! .. lowest holiday entitlement in Europe and one of the highest retirement ages. And don't even mention the state pension, I personally think the UK is one nasty horrible place with its greed, Wars, and its inequality. We could do sooooo much better,

You would make a good politician

You post made up sh1t as gospel to make a political point

Someone points out you posted made up sh1t

instead of acknowledging that you posted made up sh1t you go into full deflection mode and throw as many smokebombs as you can think of and never mention again the post that you initiated in true politician mode.

As an aside, given Scotland's significant health issues, do you really think making booze and fags cheaper thereby encouraging even more people to drink/smoke themselves into poorer late-life health and sadly some into an earlier grave than necessary is the way forward for an independent Scotland?

OK I will concede I may need to research the figures a bit more but my concession doesn't make you right ! And the point I was trying to make seems to have gone right over your head. That is most major European countries have provided much more support to their populations and in particularly small businesses than the UK. .. and that to me is indicative of how the UK treats its Citizens. And for the record I wasn't advocating Cigarettes & alcohol just making a point ! in fact I fully support minimum alcohol unit pricing and high tax on smokes, To my knowledge the UK has the second highest price per kWh in Europe ( tho im sure you will be eager to correct me if wrong) But the line in your response that reall y stuck in my gullet was the term " UK bashing" Feck sake min I've been UK bashing all my adult life ! if you want a comprehensive list of why we'd be here till chucking out time,.

The Sun has long set on the Empire someone should tell those who rule us. An Empire that has sowen the seeds for some of the worst disasters that have afflicted humanity. A truly immoral place and I for one want out !
