Calling a cheat a cheat isn't bringing the game into disrepute.
The more of that the better, about time the referees were called cheats too.
The normal defence of course is , no they're not cheating they're only s'hite
That's been the defence for the past 50 years that I know of and probably a fair while before that.
As for Goodwin, give him a chance min.
That's one transfer window, and a fair one at that.
This time next year we should be arguing about whether we need one or two players, mostly through personal preference.
You have to give him until this time yext year though.
Mind you, at this rate, we won't have played another game before then.
Jim's just giving me to much ammunition & tbh he's shown himself to be a liability now probably going to be banned from dugout for 3-5 games. Anyway our game is a corrupt laughing stock but hey ho' just seems practically everything is corrupt now! Money & filthy Greed!!
“Now”
What are you trying to say?
That's what I thought.
When has it ever been different?
Don't you read history?
Ah've watched the Scales/Porteous incident over n' over .... and if Scales did onythin wrang, it was puttin his hands in the air. Why? Cos Ah reckon, Porteous expected tae get his hands ower a shoulder/arm .... and the fact he ended up wi his airm roon Scales' neck disrupted his balance, and that's why he went doon ... pullin Scales doon wi him.
So, he didna dive.
But he might as well hae!
He blatantly, and assertively impeded Scales via a damn good grab o' shirt.
Said grab o' shirt was ***** in Porteous' effort in gettin 'goalside.
His arm aroon Scales' neck was instrumental in the momentum which 'swung' him down and in front of Scales.
Scales' momentum carried him over Porteous.
Porteous committed two fouls before he hit the deck. He did not just tug Scales' shirt, he fkn near removed it. He then got his arm around Scales' neck ..... I suspect, in an an attempt to grab something to prevent him falling .. illegal, but a natural reaction.
So no, no dive, no cheating ... up til now.
But ... to see a fellow professional sent off? and a penalty awarded? ... as a result? ..... that's where the cheating happened. Goodwin is spot on IMHO ... he said it as he saw it ... and I agree ... because I saw and said even before the replay.
Ah'm wi' Donsdaft here. JG is right. Tae fck wi diplomacy if it means acceptin 12 v 11 becomin 12 v 10 ... The role of a referee is fundamentally tae ensure fair play in equal measure. When a ref essentially dictates the outcome of a game, by way of favouring the actions of a'bully', then we might as well abandon all our crying out for entertaining fitba!
*** it .... Jist hire a team o' second rate Italians/Argentinians/Spaniards well trained in inner thigh 'horse-bites', ref-blind kidney punches, lower rib cage elbow shunts etc.
.... Jist jokin, bit ken?
Ah'm in wi JG on this issue. It was never a pen, and the point at which Porteous cheated was when he did fk all ither than accept the ref's decision.
Noo, it's a lang time ago, but .. in the 74 world cup, Hristo Bonev, (Bulgaria), gathered some considerable respect - globally - due tae his gesticulation toward the ref ( fa wis aboot tae award a pen) that nae infringement had taken place.
50 years on, Ah struggle tae think if it has ever happened again at any level.
Therefore, Ah div wonder if refs are really the problem ... as much as it might suit tae believe.
Maybe, jist maybe, certain teams/players/managers factor in 'the ref' in their tactical 'strats' ..... and why nae?
"50 years on, Ah struggle tae think if it has ever happened again at any level."
Billy McLeod at Sheddocksley playing for theologians v somebody in a pre season friendly circa August 1979
Despite being a mad boozer and womaniser, one of the lads really, Billy returned to his hebridean home for the summer and came back having found god. Not only god but the wee free variety of god.
Having just fired the ball wide of the post, the ref gave a goal, but Billy did the christian thing and informed the referee of his mistake.
Suffice to say it was taking the name Theologians too far for the rest of us.
A good man down, Billy was, he wouldn't even come into the Malt Mill for a coke or something.
Goodwin still here….sack him!
