It is incredible how we lost that midas touch overnight but its just as incredible that we signed a load of misfits who gelled in the first place. Sums up Warnock really.
We seemed to be cursed in the left back position after Chris Withe left, which is the position Dryden was brought in to cover for the risk we'd taken with Paris who'd come back from a bad injury IIRC (and he was forced to retire), "Wurzel" cost us £250,000 no less, sold the following season to Birmingham City in March 93 for not much more than half we'd paid for him after making just 2 apps in 92/93. That probably tells it's own story, but yes, I was at the City Ground in 1992 and that goal was a sizeable contribution.

Left back Platnauer had been the weakest link from the initial Wembley triumph and then after dropping out of the top flight, we ended up with Dijkstra - who I liked but that ended very badly indeed.
N0.3 jersey in the Slade-Kendall season was worn by Michael Emanalo and Ray Daniel amongst others before we finally had a settled left back in Ian Baraclough for the mini-revival.
Oh for the days of Nigel Worthington.
