Long time ago, and wasn't at the club long so memory isn't the best but what I remember was he was certainly an improvement. The fact he went onto play for Everton for song and score in a FA Cup final to win it tells you all you need to know.

Still thought we improved when he was there, though maybe not eneough. Agana was the wrong signing, more expensive and we went backwards.

Rideout's class stood out by a Country mile in the Notts team. Was signed from the Saints for 250k to play upfront but was moved into midfield. Hence why he didn't score the goals he was signed for.
Now Agana, what a waste of space. A very nice man, but useless. Could tackle himself & lose the ball.
The rumour was we were really after Deane, probably a Pavis outlet to save face
Rideout was the best back to goal centre forward at the club (although if lund had a bit of pace…)
But we never played to his strength. He wasn’t moved to midfield, he stopped scoring, and was accommodated in midfield as he was still a good footballer.
He was a class act. But was never going to score the goals we needed unless we got at least one or two out and out wingers. He simply didn’t have the pace to fit in to the system as a forward.
Season we went up, Dave Regis scored 16 (League and play offs), top flight season he scored a grand total of nil in all comps and made only 9 league apps (4 as sub). Also Draper only chipped in with 1 goal (at Oldham) after contributing 9 the promotion season.
Up to that point almost every signing we made under Warnock improved the team - Palmer, Cherry, Turner, Short, Thomas, Bartlett, Harding, Regis, Chris Short, Paris. The one exception was Stant.
After we got promoted we signed some real dross and crocks, Dryden, Agana, Andy Williams, Kevin Wilson, McClleland and Farina on loan, Catlin, Dave Robinson and Robbie Turner. Only Murphy and Dave Smith turned out to be decent but not before Warnock was sacked.
Incredible really how we lost the Midas touch in the transfer market almost overnight.
Dryden was ok remember the Fword goal. Wilson was ok in the league below and was used as some sort of fullback at times if memory serves me correct but otherwise yeah I agree. He probably deserved to be sacked. His time at Notts' in essence was no different to anywhere else really. It is incredible how we lost that midas touch overnight but its just as incredible that we signed a load of misfits who gelled in the first place. Sums up Warnock really.
We seemed to be cursed in the left back position after Chris Withe left, which is the position Dryden was brought in to cover for the risk we'd taken with Paris who'd come back from a bad injury IIRC (and he was forced to retire), "Wurzel" cost us £250,000 no less, sold the following season to Birmingham City in March 93 for not much more than half we'd paid for him after making just 2 apps in 92/93. That probably tells it's own story, but yes, I was at the City Ground in 1992 and that goal was a sizeable contribution.
Left back Platnauer had been the weakest link from the initial Wembley triumph and then after dropping out of the top flight, we ended up with Dijkstra - who I liked but that ended very badly indeed.
N0.3 jersey in the Slade-Kendall season was worn by Michael Emanalo and Ray Daniel amongst others before we finally had a settled left back in Ian Baraclough for the mini-revival.
Oh for the days of Nigel Worthington.
So what I remember about Agana was that every time we’d play Sheffield Utd he would tear us apart, combined with Deane. I was always really impressed whenever I saw those two play. Agana played wide left at Utd cutting in using his pace and strength, Deane was obviously CF. We bought him but then tried to play him in the middle, it never worked and his time at Notts definitely a failure, especially considering how much we spent on him. I would suggest he wasn’t crap, we really deployed him badly and if we wanted a centre forward we shouldn’t have bought Agana. I always wonder what may have happened in his Notts career if we’d played him in his true position from the start.
Curiously Sheff Utd were rock bottom on the day we poached Agana from them..... they finished the season 9th after murdering us in the 2nd half of the Meadow Lane clash in April. Had we held on to the HT lead that night we would have been 1 point adrift of safety going into the final two games.
