On today's showing, (Board consensus), Mitchell, Taylor, TAR, Francis.... TAXI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I thought Taylor was one of very few to come out of that with any credit! Clearly miles off full fitness but his crosses were about our bigger threat all game.

I'd say 20% the former and 80% the latter. A humiliating and annoying defeat, but we got what we deserved. I wouldn't blame Luke Williams, I would blame the fringe players he put his faith in but let us down badly. It was a classic cup game, which went the way of the clearly inferior team simply because they wanted it more. They probably only had five real attacks in the game but cut us wide open in all of them. We had far more attacks, but never looked dangerous because of their desire to be first to the ball. Many of our team should have been pushing their case for a starting place, but none of them did. If we're playing the blame game, three players stood out:

    1. Quevan Castro - he seemed to think it was all a bit beneath him, but he was the worst player on the pitch. He reminded me of Stanley Aborah, in that he just strolled around with minimal workrate.
    2. Kairo Mitchell - I thought this would be the ideal game for him, but he struggled against tier 7 defenders. Where Langstaff has the instinct to be in the right place when a ball is played into the box, Mitchell has the instinct to be in the wrong place.
    3. Ed Francis - he was given the ideal chance to dominate midfield, but he did the exact opposite. He saw plenty of the ball, but did absolutely nothing with it in an attacking sense. Sideways and backwards passes keep possession, but they don't win games.

Well done to Coalville, their tactics were spot on. Frustrate us by putting 11 players behind the ball, then try and hit us on the break. The fact they hit us so effectively on the break is really disappointing. I hope they get a good draw in the next round.

Exactly! Your strongest team should be several goals to the good by half time, then you can decide who to rest if it’s looking easy. I’m talking about playing a team two divisions below of course.

We couldn’t pull out like Man Utd could we. We had to be more subtle!

Yep all 3 very disappointing, Francis’s distribution was awful at times, when Palmer came on it showed how far off him he is. As for Castro, after York he’s been absolutely awful, for someone who apparently said he wanted to be the best player in the world, I would suggest that will be quite a lengthy never ending road he’s going on. I feel for Mitchell sometimes, not totally made my mind up on him but it feels like it’s going to be another season of struggle for him.

So some put the blame on the Head Coach for the team selection, others firmly blame the fringe players given a chance to impress and badly failed. The reality is a bit of both IMO. The starting XI was easily good enough on paper to win that game even with 8 changes and especially with those reinforcements on the bench.

If I had been there maybe I'd be more angry and disappointed, but regardless It's hard to be too angry or too disappointed as a fan when you are top of the league.

The biggest losers in all this for me are the players who were given the chance, came in and disappointed.

Win the next league game with the first team and it will be soon forgotten, fail to win and it will becoming a recurring comment.

Terrible without a doubt but I do think your final sentence is a bit of an over-reaction though given our home record.

One positive out of today - Southend went out as well, so we’re both free on first round day and could move the Tuesday night game there forward. Be a much easier trip for us than midweek, get them a bigger crowd and free up a bit of fixture congestion cos we’ve got a lot of midweek games coming up.
Nooooooo! I can go on that Tuesday and an ok drive from Cambridge so planning to go, wouldn’t be able to make the Saturday. (Sorry just being selfish).

Disappointing result, definitely, but tells LW all he needs to know or reinforces what he knows about the squad.
