It's not just about where you were born. It's also about lineage. You qualify for the land of your birth. Parents or grandparents born elsewhere and you qualify for that country too.

So, you were born in NL. Mam is Irish, Dad is English. Maternal grandparents are Scottish and Welsh. Paternal grandparents French and German. That's 7 countries you can play sport for.

Then you have the extra "qualifications" of having lived somewhere for a number of years (5 in some sports). You and your parents emigrated to Spain when you were 5. from the age of 10, in some sports, you qualify for Spain as well. That's 8.
