I guess because the vast majority of RL players come from the north of England...or Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Islands.
The problem with all rugby World Cups imo is that there are only a very limited number of teams who can actually win it and the chances of an upset are negligible in rugby compared with football.
I think the RU World Cup has only ever been won by four teams (South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, and England) and likewise with RL it has only been shared between Australia (usually), NZ and GB (or England in this tournament).
Having said that...England were magnificent against Samoa at the weekend and I think they have a real chance this time round, but matches between the likes of Jamaica and Ireland or Scotland and Italy, where there is virtually know RL tradition, are always going to look a little second rate and contrived.

Whatever the outcome we should all take notice of the great - and I don’t use the word lightly - Kevin Sinfield’s achievement when he hopefully completes a run from Murrayfield to Old Trafford at half time in the WC Final in aid of research into MND. Stuff of genuine heroes...both KS and the sufferers themselves.
