It would probably end up back with Slocombe..
A lot of the time it’s the actual delivery, for all Palmers qualities, corner taking isn’t one, Rubens had a go and nothing special and I’m sure someone else has had a crack. Unless you’re going to whip a corner in with a bit of pace, past the first man, away from the keeper, you’re probably not going to score from many.
So we missed out on an away trip to Charlton Athletic in the first round.
Never been to the Valley and would have gone, so on a personal note it's a tad disappointing but less so for the club.
Last time we played away at Charlton 10 years ago we pulled off a fantastic 4-2 win. At the time I was getting a little too tipsy with the prawn sandwich brigade at Pride Park and following the score throughout the second half.
Had fun that day, free food, free drink, unauthorized walk through the belly of the stadium, I permanently borrowed a tactics sheet (corners) from the home dressing room wall and got to meet Sean Dyche when I emerged outside. Went back in to continue celebrating Notts win that day against what I believe was top of the table (or close).
You're right AC and it's something that really frustrates me. You often see two players at a corner as if they are going to take it short, which is fine, but what happens when you do this it pulls one, maybe two defenders towards the corner, again which is a good thing to do because it creates space in the box, particularly in the area you mention. problem is, despite the space being created you rarely see teams taking advantage of it. And I'm talking teams in general here, not just Notts.
We'd have presumably had a different number to Coalville had we got through and there's also the butterfly effect, but it does stick in the throat to see teams who've knocked you out land a plum tie.
The last genuine big club we missed out on was Chelsea in 2016/17, pulled out of the hat as we were facing a replay at Peterboro, but that would probably have prolonged the Trew agony and we may have dropped out of the league a few years earlier.
