    The Current Political Climate

Can all be stemmed back to the Brexit vote in 2016. Our last 2 PMs didn’t really believe in leaving, but saw personal gain from the situation and so rode roughshod with it and with it our constitution.

Decent Tory MPs (there actually were a few) were expelled from the party. Labour tried to appease their red wall voting base and so didn’t offer any real opposition to the financial self harm we placed on ourselves.

Overall, what a complete waste of time and economic disaster it has been. I take no satisfaction in saying that, as everyone knows I’ve always been firmly opposed to it, but I still hoped it would be a success for the good of the country. Now I just see devastation for the next generation. We need political revolution in this country and to get away from this 2 party system. I also hope the Tories are bombed out of office for decades.

I agree, it has all been a big disaster, the question now, though, is what to do about it; a significant causation has been the war in Ukraine. As for our political system, govern works best when there is a strong, coherent opposition, so I don’t think that it would be a good idea if the Tories were annihilated, it would give too much scope for the extremists of the Labour Party to wreak havoc. The best governments, of whichever side, are best if they are ‘centrist’, with an opposition to hold them to account. We could be waiting a long time……

We’ve literally turned into the United States and how polarised they are over there, you can see it here. I really hope that the next party that comes in tries to reform the voting, ethics, think tanks etc that all parties sign up to and agree. Otherwise we’ll just have this toxic atmosphere surrounding our politics. For starters we should remove anyone with a conflict of interest involved in politics, that goes for these advisors. Wtf do PMs need advisors?

What a sorry state we are in. I bet many Tories are now regretting they piled the pressure on Boris to stand down. He was a plain awful PM ... but he did get a few big things right (eventually) on Covid and Ukraine. Also reasons why he went seem trivial now in comparison with what Truss’ Gov have done over the past few weeks. Labour is partly to blame of course for providing no credible opposition ... the wasted Miliband years ..... the dire Corbyn years ... and now Starmer is surely only a transitional leader. The Libdems also appear to offer nothing and Davey seems the most boring t*** this side of Christendom .... followed closely by Starmer. Also the war in Ukraine is mainly to blame for the cost of living crisis ... although I for one am proud of the way this country has stood up to the tyrant Putin and his war of choice.

We are in such a bad place in our politics .... and not sure what the way out is. I do agree that Brexit unleashed toxic forces which cannot now be put back in the bottle easily. Tory MPs are still branded as Remoaners or Brexidiots and this seems to dictate they way they act. It also added fuel to the fire on Scottish and Irish nationalism. Everything is just so dire when you watch the news these days. Maybe it’s time to leave this green and pleasant land .... although very wary the grass always look greener etc .....

Yes, and despite Boris’s faults, and he had many, it was the wrong time to change the PM. The biggest issue is that awful war, it is the greatest threat to our security in a generation and the number one responsibility of any government is the safety and security of it’s population, in that respect, Boris was dealing with the crisis well. A large number of Tory MPs have lost their marbles.
