I get why some people like Boris and, to be fair, he does have that likeable buffoon image but people need to cast aside thoughts of Truss's nightmare stint in office and remember exactly why she was able to get the job as PM in the first place. There should really be no way back for BJ.

As for Starmer and Labour, I take Regis's point, but I really do not know what their policies are (aside from their recent statements regarding worker's rights-which I happen to agree with) so do not see how they might try and get us out of the current mess. Starmer having low charisma doesn't bother me so much -we need competence and ability more than charisma in a leader -but having no real knowledge yet of their plans and concerns over divisions in the Labour party do.

PS - Johnson will still be very popular with the public and members so can't be all bad although no fan but just saying!
Problem I have with both main parties is that they have abandoned meritocracy. Doesn't serve the country as well as it should be when in government as so recently proved. Seems to be the same in government departments, where taxpayers pay the bills but receive poor services in return.

I’m livid and, you know, I really shouldn’t say this but I hope all those people that put Liz Truss in No. 10. I hope it was worth it. I hope it was worth it for the ministerial red box. I hope it was worth it to sit around the cabinet table, because the damage they have done to our party is extraordinary.

I’ve had enough. I’ve had enough of talentless people putting their tick in the right box, not because it’s in the national interest, but because it’s in their own personal interest to achieve a ministerial position'.

Pretty damning, I wonder what he thinks of Boris Johnson.
I was watching Peston (who had himself laughably insisted himself in the last week that Truss was formidable, yes he said that and not fkd) I think it was on Tuesday night when that quote came out and he said that this walker guy was the most loyal tory out there and had never said anything like that before.

I suppose it is better late than never that he said it, when it is obvious they are all self interest obsessed snakes who threaten to resign if they don't get their own way like the defence secretary did with the 3% defence commitment b ollox.

They've done more policy u turns than I have ever done in my car, all them done to cliing onto power.

How the fk you let someone like the corrupt Zahawi into your party let alone dictate which cabinet position he wants or he'll resign says it all about this Tory farce.

I'd be very surprised if I could ever tire of punching Peston in the face.

For every person who hates Boris there seems to be 8 or 9 who like him or are prepared to be fooled by him if we accept your argument Regis.

The next election will be a defeat but I do think it’ll be a much lesser defeat than with anyone else in charge.

Maybe that an indictment of the party.

One thing is for certain, listening to Labour trying to trash Boris today they’re desperate not to see him back.

    That says everything.
I see your point Mick. But come on, you just know this all too well with the BBC. They will whip this up how they want a story to go viral. You could say they hand picked those people and discarded the non-boris fans. But if that is the reality.. then like i’ve said before - we deserve what we get coming our way.

Do you really think Johnson will turn anything around? Who would his choice as chancellor be? If everyone’s answer is Sunak.. it’s likely Boris will choose him.

Labour are probably reacting strongly to it because of the shambles Boris has caused.. rather that see him as a threat.

I’d rather we had mourdant, or even that tory guy who gave that passionate speech on tv the other day. personally i’d like Rory stewart.

Peston always talks so slow, that I feel I should be ringing an ambulance as he might be having a stroke the bell end.

Rather have Penny Mordaunt or Wallace but would have Boris twenty times over Sunak who is an excuse for a human. I wish my Mrs could dodge most taxes in this country!!!!

I still can’t believe Boris is back in the mix. A deeply flawed character who was voted against by 148 of his own MPs let alone 50+ ministerial resignations. Also someone who is still under investigation by the Complaints Committee which could possibly get him thrown out as an MP. What has changed in the three months since he left to now bring him back. Crazy move. I can understand nutcases like Rees-Mogg and Dorries signing his entry form .... but so-called sensible people like Wallace now doing it. It’s as though many in the Tory party are living in this parallel universe totally out of touch with the rest of us.

Personally I would be happy with Mordaunt or Sunak. I thought Sunak’s wife had decided some time ago to pay Uk tax. Given her wealth she could easily “curry favour” by supporting some charities for the poor and underprivileged. I always thought Sunak had the right ideas and the communications skills to go with it. Mordaunt is a bit more of a gamble ... but she has been sure footed in a few recent showings in Parliament and the Queen’s funeral. Is it just me ... but she is a great looking girl as well. Can see her creating impact wherever she goes. She also uses humour and seems a natural communicator. Either would be fine for me ... and a huge improvement over Truss or Boris.

Sunak’s wife has started paying tax on her earnings only! No back dating of taxes and other taxes due to her Non Dom status are still avoided. For example zero taxation on the numerous luxury properties they own!! I wish my mrs could avoid taxation on any property!!

It’s disgusting!! For an intelligent chap he’s quite thick as to be likeable all he would need to do is back date her taxes - pay tax on everything like Joe Public and donate a few million to food banks which would be peanuts to their unbelievable wealth!

Nobody is interested in what the crooked MP’S want as the next leader as it stinks of Gourlay choosing his next chum as a manager. I personally would choose Mordount but the public and members would choose Boris no doubt as he’s the only one with a mandate!

PS - should everyone in the country avoid back dating their taxes if they are liable? He’s a complete and utter shyster and didn’t he drink wine too? That said who gives a s hit about the wine drinking? Really!
