We could start making things. White goods, cars, steel? You name it.

Nothing I'd like better than to see manufacturing return to the UK and replace the service sector as our core .

The country's relied on way too much cheap Labour for decades but it goes deeper than that because in my opinion an abundance of cheap Labour makes governments lazy and unwilling to change things .

However a return to major manufacturing requires investment , lots of it to train workers and tool up .

It also requires manufacturing businesses to make a profit .

    There lies the problem .

The problem lies with the workforce. We’d be back to the 70’s within 3 years.

Have you seen the price of a new car today?

If billions was invested in car making and it was profitable and sustainable, the unions would soon bring it all down.

    My opinion.

Why don't today's unions bring down Amazon Fulfilment Centres .

    Amazon make huge profits .

    Tend to agree.

Historically miners and car assembly workers were amongst the highest paid jobs in the UK, but they wanted more.

    Look where they are now.

To be successful in manufacture you need cheap Labour and cheap power, we’ve got neither compared to other countries

Manufacturing is a dead industry for humans. Even developing countries that have had huge growth in this area from cheap labour is going to find this work drying up as more and more is automated and done by machines for a fraction of the cost.

The future is in information and resources.
