I'm pretty sure that the phrase "you black *******" was (and probably still is) used as a derogatory term towards the colour of someone's skin rather than their actual parentage/origin.

I guess it's just the way language and the use of it evolves and yes the use of the word bitch is extremely frowned upon as is use of the word damn. Piss, sh!t and to some extent fu.ck however raise fewer eyebrows, I guess bodily functions are acceptable?

I was born in the 80s, forgive me for being mistaken on exactly how black people used to be abused at football matches before I was born. Glad to hear the inflatable bananas wasn't part of that, though there have been more recent incidents. It doesn't change my underlying question which grist has failed to address.

What do you think people stopped being allowed to shout at football matches that you think they shouldn't have been...

Yep, I see what you mean. I could suggest that the power of the offensiveness is tied in to the respective access of these sub groups to power and privilege within the country they live in. But I won't.
