If it is true, Grist will be telling us how it's all Paul Warne's fault. You watch.

This is such a cliche and so easy to say when you can't get in it.

So I'll give you a list of what to expect if Rotherham United reached the Premier League

1: There's a buzz around the city and it receives so much regular publicity in the national media. You team might even become semi fashionable with millions around the world having RU as their second team, imagine that.
2: Players don't necessarily seem better but they do seem bigger, more muscle bound with everyone looking like a top athlete.
3: The standard of finishing goes up through the pyramid, so in the PL strikers can score from nothing.
4: Your club become rich overnight and have about 60 million a season to spend on players. This means you can basically cherry pick all the best Championship players and you know that financially other Championship can't even try to compete for transfers.
5: The clubs official Youtube and Twitter followers seems to double overnight, SUFC now have 165K Youtube subscribers.
6: Your team seem to be in the media all the time, always mentioned on national radio, national tv, it's a real novelty.
7: You need to do internal changes to the stadium so they can cope with mass influx of journalists and other clubs entourages etc
On match day there are far more vans at the stadium, triple the number of media men, every match feels like a massive game.
8: You need to put a cap on season tickets otherwise you could fill the ground just with season tickets holders, so there's no general sale.
9: The away end seems to be sold out almost every single match.
10: Your baseline of what you thought was football changes. For example in the PL every team seem to focus on keeping possession with no teams playing percentage crossing or punts up field. Also in the Championship you think of 30K as a big crowd, however in the PL it's a modest crowd, your definition of a big crowds changes to being 50K or 60K.
11: VAR is a game changer, it's great that it generally stops your team from being robbed but it's a real passion killer when 20 seconds after scoring it comes up on the scoreboard "VAR check in progress".

For most people it's very enjoyable being in the PL, it's the greatest show in town.
However it's not your traditional football so there's also a tinge of sadness attached to it. Suppose it's what you call "progress".

Yes we are ready to return, the good news for us this time is we have 3 players (Berge, Ahmedhodzic and N'Diaye) who are better than any of the players Wilder had in the PL, so we already have 3 players currently at PL standard, with room to improve further.
A very interesting insight, thanks ASM.

Technical grist could be right as it's a old problem that has plagued Washington through his career so warne and the team knew about it.

Thanks for this insight from a genuine supporter who has actually experienced life in the Premier League.
There are obviously a lot of positives when your club is at that level but, once you've achieved it, what are the expectations of the average Blades fan?
I presume they must be similar to ours when we reach the Championship which, realistically is our equivalent of the top flight. We talk about survival, consolidation and then building from there but the PL is rapidly becoming a division of the "haves" and "have loads more" so the prospect of the less well off actually competing for anything tangible is practically non-existent.
I think you'll go up and hope you do but is that scenario actually an attractive one for Blades fans?

Once you're there, expectations start to increase, you only need to look at Leicester and think if they can win the league then anything is possible for SU? it's quite tempting to feel a little arrogant due to the massive financial divide between PL and EFL clubs. Also some fans start to become entitled. So you have to resist this and stay humble when you're enjoying life in the sun.

    Expectations for Blades

Try to qualify for Europe, we've come close a few times but it's some thing we've never done in our history.
So even Europa or that crappy European conference league would be a monkey off the back.
We joke that our first match in European competition will either be in Scotland, Belfast or Azerbiajan with flights costing £2K ha ha.

Also to be honest the initial target would be to to make in roads in to the "who's the biggest club in Sheffield" debate.
SWFC have spent 66 seasons in the top flight, we've spent 62 seasons

so a target would be to spend a continuous 5 seasons in the top flight to overtake them.

Another target would be to possibly increase the capacity and expand our growing fanbase.
SW have historically been better supported but that is definitely changing, their fan base is aging where as most of the young kids (boys and girls) seem to support United these days, another decade of success should re-affirm it to ensure United have the much bigger fanbase in the city. SW have now spent 23 years outside the top flight and counting, this is the longest spell any Sheffield team has ever been outside the topflight, so that club (SWFC), is in danger of dying a slow death.

Other targets are to become established in the PL so we're no where near relegation.
Then we can use some of the profits to build up the infrastructure, modernise the training ground.
Expand the back of the Kop (the worse stand in the ground because the concourse is outside open to the elements).
Also we can add an extra tier to the South stand and provide top level corporate facilities where VIP's can visit and be impressed by the stadium and its facilities. Maybe take capacity to around 41K, just make it bigger than Hillsborough.

Once the club has been built up, then we can look at competing to win things. At least give it a try.

What's it all got to do with the millers? Long posts lose me.

On to what threads about tonight. Hardly any options in defence or up front. I'm hoping Hull can play then I'd go back 3 right to left Peltier Hull Harding. Got to be Chieo lone forward.

I started the thread and I asked the question, don’t you think it’ll be sweeter if we draw or shockingly win an ex Prem team who have a good chance of going back there?

You don’t have to read the posts just bypass it.

I’m sure Taylor will put the best possible side out and we will do our best
