Strange one that, the whole dressing up thing. Dare say a fair few lads could fill the bra better then the person whom it was intended for.

We would make a go kart out of nothing but 2 pieces of wood in a t-shape with 4 pram wheels and a piece of string for steering. We would come down hills at speed but with no brakes, we usually came off at the end of the road. I was never without grazes, cuts and bruises.

My mum was always going mental at me due to the knees being torn on my school trousers and requiring an “invisible mend” at the seamstress and the state of my shoes with the toes completely f u c k e d.

Oh.......and scragging the mesh on her knickers!

The cinema you mentioned was actually called The Sandwell Cinema located in Sandwell Road. It was converted to a cinema around 1922, it was previously an old chapel. When it was opened it was West Broms second cinema after St Georges in Paradise Street. I believe it also had an adjoining graveyard.

It always struggled to attract a clientele and in the 20's it advertised heavily in the local press but to no avail. It shuttered at the beginning of the 30s and remained derelict for over 25 years and was used for a short time as Council storage. It was finally demolished in the mid fifties.

That was a thing that always amazed my Ma.
My left shoe always wore a hole in it even tho I was right footed. Right shoe always remained in tact but the left shoe always got a hole in it....never knew why. One of those great mysteries of life, like socks in a washing machine.

As a t e e nager Working with my dad in the building trade, 70ft up on a Hotel roof on a plank from the ridge of the roof to a tall chimney to put a lid on a pot. Health and safety would have had a fit on numerous counts. (Sorry about the strange looking word, for some reason using the word t e e n is a punishable offence.)
