At the point they go into care it’s too late to do anything with their savings or house.

All this stuff needs to be sorted well in advance otherwise the council will grab it.

I have the same concerns over my 84 year old mum who is still very fit, thankfully.

Her estate is worth around £450k.

She’s like most elderly people though, the thought of handing everything over is scary, it can lead them to be very vulnerable, especially if a child is a car crash in the way my younger brother has always been.

Her reasoning is that she wants to go into a “nice” home if ever that day comes.....her exact words to me in her broad Yorkshire accent.....” I’m not letting the council stick me in a home stinking of p I s s!”
