Following continued extremely cold weather, a pitch inspection has been arranged for 4pm today ahead of Saturday’s ISUZU FA Trophy third-round match against Chorley.
Temperatures have dipped below -6 degrees at Meadow Lane for two consecutive nights and there is now a significant surface frost, despite the pitch being re-covered immediately after full-time against Gateshead on Tuesday.
With cold weather continuing into tomorrow, there is serious concern that the pitch won’t be playable and both clubs, along with the match referee, have agreed that an early inspection is sensible.
In the event of a postponement, competition rules dictate that the match must be played next Tuesday – meaning our Vanarama National League home match against Barnet would need to be rearranged in the new year.
We will provide a further update following this afternoon’s inspection.

If the game is off tomorrow as looks likely, it might be a timely postponement of the Barnet game as they are on a hot streak of form, and would give Chicks and Macca more time to recover from injury. Also if our game is off, I cannot see any other games being played, so we will not fall behind with games to play.
I think it’s a positive as Barnet are a decent side and we’re better with them 2 back and we’ve also managed to get last Tuesday in.
I would rather we played Barnet on Tuesday. No need to fear them, even without the two players. Would give us a chance to go 7 ahead and although Wrexham would have 2 in hand and play on Weds, it would put pressure on them.
I think mentality could be one area we win in over them.
I've got some respect for this Trophy as the primary non-league cup competition, but no respect at all for its organiser the FA. I cannot see why it should displace a far more important National League game, and I'd be saying that irrespective of the implications for our title race with Wrexham. The FA Trophy - whilst far more worthy of its existence than the EFL Cup will ever be - is still a secondary competition and frankly should know its role in this situation. The Barnet game should take precedence. Unfortunately, this is the Football Association we're talking about, so an inflated sense of self-importance and lack of common sense (and repeatedly 'bringing the game into disrepute') are the only things they can ever guarantee!
