We are now halfway through the season and there is debate on this board about the summer recruitment. So, at the halfway stage how do you rate the players that were brought in? Is it a HIT or MISS and why.
1. Cohen Bramall – MISS – weak defensively, fails to get a cross in too many times when he beats a man, his set plays are very poor, might be ok at league 1 level, free up a wage and send him out on loan in January.
2. Jamie McCart – MISS – neither manager has given him many starts or a run of games, that is a worry. We prefer to play a right footed, right back in his position. Might come good next season but looks a waste of a wage this season.
3. Scott High – MISS – Doesn’t get many starts so we haven’t seen him at the level he was at when he was a regular for play-off Huddersfield last season, yet again he might come good if given a run of games, but at the 50% mark, it must be a miss.
4. Tom Eaves – MISS – main striker, hasn’t scored a goal yet and can’t even get a game, looking like one of the worst signings in quite a while.
5. Brooke Norton-Cuffy – HIT – for an 18-year-old he looks a class player, he is still learning the game but is always a threat when he goes forward, and he can cross a ball. We shouldn’t be relying on him for every game and defensively he has a lot to learn, but a joy to watch when he has the ball.
6. Conor Washington – MISS – Irish Paul Warne, runs around a lot, scores a handful of goals a season, but won’t get the goals we need to stay up. I think he is more likely to turn a halfway stage MISS to HIT by the end of the season than most players if he increases his shots on target ration to total shots.
7. Grant Hall – HIT – Defense looks crap without him, very experienced Championship CB and it shows.
8. Lee Peltier – MISS – looked like a panic signing and having two players at the end of their career in the defense won’t work, his positioning is very poor, and he is not needed in the squad, waste of a wage.
9. Cameron Humphreys – MISS – To be fair I am being a bit hard on him here, he has looked ok, but gets injured quite a bit and makes a few mistakes, I do think he will come good.
10. Peter Kioso – MISS – If he had been fit and played 20 games this could be different but now, he is looking like a bit of an injury prone player, I hope he gets his chance in the second half of the season to become a HIT.
I haven’t included the youth players or 3rd choice keeper, as they haven’t had any game time.
It will be interesting to see what others think, remember it is a judgement based on the first half of the season.
