NL yes, at a stretch strugeling L2 side , not a chance he would get another L1 club, without proving himself somewhere else

Personally I think he was on a hiding to nothing. Also, I wouldn't say his style of play is one dimensional. A lot of what we are enjoying this season is very much down to the work IB put in whilst at Notts. The big difference under LW is that he has added a level of intensity that was one the one key thing missing from IB's game. After the sacking of Ross IB really needed a no.2 with that kind of mindset, and in truth I was hopeful Doyle would fit that requirement, unfortunately he didn't appear to offer IB much at all in that department.

LW is bringing more out of players and who would have put a 6th tier winger as main striker? He is also far more tactically aware and from his interviews it is clear that tweaks to formation are made during a match either to create or nullify a problem. I said on his appointment that he had something of the Peps about him and nothing has happened to change that opinion, well other than Pep is, by his standards, struggling a bit

Still doesnt change the fact that a large part of our success is down to Langstaff and scot - between just them to more than half of our goals

If he had stayed at Notts, he might of done better with the benefit of Langstaff and Scot, a big reason why we are doing so much better this season

LW has proved to be a good manager, but how much is that down to him being a great manager, or that everything was perfectly set up player wise when he arrived, and also off the field behind the scenes
In LW,s favour , getting Bostock to sign could be a shrewd move by LW, showing he can identify good players , a necessary skill if he wants to climb up the pyramid during his career
And there nothing like a promotion on a managers Cv to boost his career
If he had stayed at reached this time of year in say indifferent form resulting in us being say 6th place I think the fans could have easily turned or at least been very restless. Then it doesn't look a safe position at all. One end of that season and no promotion could easily (and should IMO) led to the sack. Then he probably ain't getting no FGR or similar job offer.

If you get headhunted by a L1 club, who suit your style, with another progressive owner on presumably a higher salary and the financial security of a 3 year deal you would be a little silly not to take it.

Has he overstretched himself , probably. Is keeping FGR in L1 a real challenge, certainly. But you take the job.

With thanks to some great radar additions IB left LW with a very good squad as we have seen.

With our squad , and the addition of langstaff and scot, i dont think any manager would be in 6th pace, not IB, and not Ardley either

And yes at the time , IB would not have been aware of scot and langstaff, so a higher division, more cash on a 3 year deal, would make absolute sense
But it still has not ansered the question, is LW a great manager, or has he just benefied from great players, and an excellent off the field set up, would LW have done so well with the team we had last year, possible but not likely

Sorry couldn’t help myself after a few wines! Thing is I don’t understand this obsession with former players and managers, Ardley’s been done to death, now Burchnall, not to mention Sam Osbourne and others. Burch didn’t get us promoted, he left for a higher job, can’t blame him. All that was said at the beginning and to me he became an irrelevance, whether he succeeds or fails I don’t give a s**t. I’m very happy he left as the replacement is an upgrade, we move on.
