A lot better than Ardley and Burchnall. LW has given us a genuine chance of the automatic place, the other two never came anywhere near it.

I agree he's a lot better - but Burchnall was classed a failure on here, simply because we didn't go up.

I have just been looking at what LW said when he was appointed. Worth a read I think:

'I think Ian Burchnall did a fantastic job here and has developed a style that I’ve really enjoyed watching in the games I’ve reviewed.

Having spoken to various people, I can understand the work that Ian did and I’ve got a lot of respect for that. I’m hoping I can build on that, so it won’t be a wholesale change or a shock to everyone. Continuity will be key to our progress.'

Unless there's a total collapse, the best we've had so far at this level and - as we're likely to end up with more points than any of the sides that have finished top since we've been down here - very unlucky that we were up against a Hollywood backed rival for the title.

Next season, that old cliche "You're only as good as your last game" comes back into play.

Unless the 3 up format is introduced, it's going to be tough to "go again" back at square one at the very bottom of the NL mountain for a 5th time around and still needing to be 1st to the top to guarantee success, with the inevitable comparisons with the progress made this season, which we'll almost certainly fall short of.

Ollie Baylis speaking on a recent Shaymen (Halifax) podcast says 3 up from the NL will not happen.

UTM nothing like a bit of optimism to end the year on

As we are often reminded the only barometer of success is promotion. If LW doesn't achieve it this season then ultimately he's no different to NA and IB right? He's achieved exactly the same level a playoff defeat.

Well, if we do go up - as Durham points out - it would still be 2 down, so a reasonably good chance we wouldn't get relegated straight back down again.

    Happy days.

In the longer term, unless he had us fighting for top spot again, then ultimately he fails. Nothing short of promotion at this level will do for Notts. That has to be a given and not up for debate.

Now, we can see just how utterly inept and clueless they were.

Last season, some on here were very fond of reminding us how MASSIVE Solihull were with their billy big time budget compared to little old Notts... Well, NA ain't now doing any better down there than he did whilst he was here.

The pair of them can be tossed into the dustbin of history marked "losers" with the lid on and a pile of bricks on top to make sure they don't climb back out for a 2nd stint.
That's a huge NCFC dustbin if it's full of Notts managerial losers!

You can call NA a choker, someone who can't get over the line that's fair enough but he took two different sides to back to back playoff finals, doesn't scream clueless or inept. Quite the opposite but why let facts get in the way #agenda.

For quite a while on here we got regular result updates, interview clips and p!ss takes on NA after he left for Solihull. Then they went on a great run, kept winning games and all of sudden we heard nothing. Radio silence because he was doing so well. It took playoff final defeat for the volume to be temporarily turned back up #viva

FGR's IB has clearly taken over our interest as Solihull have struggled more this season and I'm surprised to say we've not heard much about it.

To give us a good chance of going up, we need to strengthen our squad, with another striker being the priority. We are pretty much covered in other areas. We cant rely on Mitchell to come in and score goals, cos he is just isn't any good.
