I’d choose avoiding relegation. I agree...winning the FA Cup would be far more glamorous and memorable, but staying up would have a much more far reaching impact on the club.

No right or wrong answer. Just opinion and preference.
There isn't a right or wrong answer, just as there wasn't in the other hypothesis, I just found it strange that fans would choose promotion ( something we would reasonably expect to happen with Derby) over the chance to win a trophy and a piece of history!

As for your revised hypothesis, mm I still find that difficult, because how often does the chance to win a trophy come around for a club like Derby? I mean what do Wigan fans remember, that FA Cup win over man City? That will stay with them for ever, being in the prem, yeah it was good while it lasted, but realistically, unless some Sheik buys us, mid table is the best we can hope for and a struggle against relegation is more likely. So we pass up a chance to win the FA Cup just to have another season of struggle, or win it, get relegated, but have a good chance of coming up next year, as Norwich and Burnley ahve done for many a year!

So I'm still going for the FA Cup win, means more to me than being a low ranking team scraping survival in a league where realistically 4 -6 teams have a chance of winning it and the rest make up the numbers!
