Thread: Bruno Fernandes goal

I think the original Clough comment was "If any one of my players isn’t interfering with play, they’re not getting paid."

As for the fiasco now it makes me laugh.

The offside rule (original one) was always part of the joke “ try explaining the offside rule to a woman”

It was even then open to debate because folks either understood it or didn’t, so what did the authorities do? They made it even more complicated so even the referees don’t understand it.

As for my view ref Fernandes. - offside for Rashford and game should have been stopped

But what do I know ?

Exactly. The men in suits and VAR have contrived to make it unintelligible. I don't think anyone really understands it anymore including the officials and PGMOL or whatever they're called.
I heard Micah Richards and Shay Given talking about the Fernandes goal, obviously from a defender's and goalkeeper's perspective.
Richards said when you know your opponent is clearly offside you let him go because the linesman will flag. The City defender let Rashford go for that reason.......but the linesman didn't flag.
Given said sweeper keepers are part of the modern game and they naturally move towards a player who is approaching the ball. That's what the City goalkeeper did but then Fernandes nipped in from a different angle.
Rashford was definitely interfering with play and drew the goalkeeper towards him.
Regardless of the rights and wrongs of it I'm still glad United beat City 🙂

Even the Man Utd manager said something like he would be fuming if it was against him.

Doesn't really apply in the same way it did before VAR came along.

That would be great but isn't practical because Linos don't put up their flags until the striker has clattered into the Goalkeeper.

Interference for me. I can't help thinking if they got rid of offside. The game would be much more simpler
and whilst their at it replace linesmen with touch line technology. They have it for goal line so why not touchline. Let's be honest the linesen have become fkin useless. At NYS on Saturday this was proved.
Howard Webb mentioned in the last world cup they were trialing using in ball sensor. What these sensors were tracking I'm not sure

They did use balls with tracking devices at the WC that could locate a ball with GPS to an accuracy of 0.1mm. Mrs. CA has had one implanted in mine

One in each? Now your getting on a bit, and things start to sag. Confuse her by making the tracker show them in 2 different locations.
Be a good party trick. Track cams balls. How wide apart can they go
