I think the general standard of the NL is fantastic for a 5th tier league, but games like today illustrate why we so desperately need to get out of it. Halifax were one of the worst, but so many teams this season have put 9, 10, or even 11 players behind the ball, even when they’ve gone behind.
I’m not saying they should just turn up and let us do want we want, but every team in the EFL would have given it a go at 1-0 down. Even so, we should have scored more than 1 goal today, we weren’t good enough in their box.
Game best summed up as dominate, wasteful, deserved.
It feels like since the Wrexham match, every home game is a continuation of the last. Nobody dares take a chance, even when losing.
Even by our standards, the passing at times today was incredible.
For the amount of time he’s talked about or sang about in the stands, I think Matty Palmer is the most under celebrated player we’ve had in my time supporting Notts.
He’s a championship player in my view. The only thing he lacks is a decent shot.
We are now one home match away from equalling another club record.... Most Home league games unbeaten - 25, set on 14th August 1971. The current run of 24 began with the 6-1 thrashing of Barnet last February after we'd lost to Grimsby Town three days earlier.
Woking are the only other side that fans inside the Meadow Lane stadium have seen beat Notts in a league fixture in the 2020s.
Yep, they seemed to think that losing 1-0 was a good result because their sole aim throughout was to stop Notts scoring. In that respect, I would rate their defensive performance at 9/10 because they constantly harried us in midfield, and fought for every ball we put in their box. Their attacking performance however gets 0/10, and that's being generous because they didn't even try.
I am getting to the stage now where I think the refs are trying to make a game of it at ML by being incredibly lenient to the opposition. Aside from the fouls that should be yellow cards, which in turn would make the game so much more difficult for the opposition, some of the referee's decisions were so poor they were laughable. The sad thing is they are obviously the best available, which in turn is worrying.
