I’ve been called a lot of things in my time John, but insecure is a first ha ha ha. As far as gammon is concerned, I’ve never heard that term before, must be summat new.

That's the problem with insults, the targets have to be upset by them for them to work. When you get to be a "mature gammon" you tend to be amused rather than insulted. John2 and Geetarman haven't quite grasped that yet so they keep up the stuck record approach.

First, I've not been using the expression gammon. Also, I was originally only using boomer descriptively it wasn't supposed to "work", that's just a happy, but an unintended side effect. Thanks for taking the time to tell me how not bothered you are that I managed to not insult you when I wasn't even trying to. Nice to know I live rent-free in your head!

Of course "rent free" is something I've read somewhere. All the words we are communicating with I also read somewhere. That's how language works!

It's a figure of speech, albeit a more modern one, maybe that's why it so obviously irks you.

I notice you used the old "scoring out of 10" thing. I've seen that one used loads before!

Again, because that's how language works. Go ahead and be original, invent some new words or expressions if you like, stop being so unoriginal.

My favourite part is that you couldn't help yourself but bite and show me that the expression winds you up too. I was just using the expression as a tool of communication, this is an unexpected bonus!
