    Sad to say

that our time as a force in football has gone, it has for a few decades to be fair, and it won't come back in our lifetime.
Years of penny pinching and mismanagement has brought us to our knees.
I am lucky enough to have watched the last great Albion team's, mid to late sixties.
The seventies and early eighties squads flattered to deceive, a bit like Spurs of today. Lot's of quality and great football but no trophies though the winter of 78-79 played a big part.
But even so, we had a great young squad, but money came before ambition. We sold Cantello, Cunningham, Robson and Moses, didn't give Ronnie Allen a fair crack of the whip because he showed ambition.
Now clubs like Brighton, Nottingham Forest, Brentford, Bournemouth and Southampton, clubs we would have swatted like flies years ago will go from strength to strength. Our time has been and gone.
Today we find ourselves among the likes of Watford, Middlesbrough, Luton etc.
Maybe in fifty or a hundred years time, if greedy owners haven't driven us to extinction, we will become the new Brighton or Brentford, but we won't see it.

A somewhat depressing post ‘55 but it does have merit. In our present situation I can understand where you’re coming from. To my mind our only hope is that someone with the financial clout comes along and buys us. However, this doesn’t look like happening any time soon. Our owner just doesn’t have the finances, the interest or the business acumen to achieve any success, in fact the complete opposite. I’m old enough to have seen the sides of the 50’s, just, the 60’s and 70’s, all of whom had their merits. We had a decent period of late in the Premiership but unfortunately since Lai has taken over this has all evaporated and we find ourselves in a very precarious situation. I just hope that someone comes along with the financial strength, and more importantly, the interest in us as a football club, to get us out of this mess.

Yes very depressing posts thus far but spot on. I have no idea what’s going to happen in the summer if we don’t get promotion.let’s face it , it’s not gonna happen is it. Boro might pip blades to second. Can’t see us beating either of them to be honest, maybe Luton Norwich Watford would be better. Let’s hope we haven’t reverted back to pre Carlos form. For some reason feel that result last night was like a loss.football eh !

Totally agree! One point last night was like a loss - don’t we ever learn from giving pathetic free kicks away on the edge of the box - same thing happened at Burnley! Birmingham are a poor poor side as Cardiff found and lost three points there!! Yes the goal was harsh on Griffiths but had there been a top keeper it would have been saved!

We still don’t seem to have resolved the striker position as Dike for me offers little!

CC has worked miracles but honestly. Think there are four teams better than us for the play offs. Can’t see us getting anything against Watford or Middlesbrough. Why? Because we don’t have the quality!

It was always going to be difficult this season with Bruce at the helm and not being able to replace players that have let us down constantly over the last few seasons.
Carlos coming in was the best thing for us and he has performed miracles in his short time here, however a few of these players will always revert to type and let us down.
Our strength in depth is alarming, if we make the playoffs then great but would anyone on here like to see us in the Prem next season
Hopefully in the summer we can get shot of the deadwood and some money found and Carlos can build his own team, next season
    for me is the one.

Your getting optimistic in your old age Bomber! We have still got long contracts and even Reach is here until 2024 and Grant must be laughing his socks off. A few good championship players but not one single player who is Premier quality!

I honestly think if we don’t get promotion we will have a fire sale of players at best or at worst go into administration. It’s going to happen for sure!

That is true boingy. It particularly became a waste of time when it was made into a form living.
It really evolved beyond the simple pleasure it was meant to be in the first place. Working people created it as a cheap pass time to break the drudgery of normal working life.
To be able to create millionaires inside a month, it was certainly never meant to be. Most early fans of the game probably would be hard pushed to identify it as the same sport from yesterday year. Not all evolution is progression
