Not sure I follow. She stayed so long because the party is split across MP's and MSP's, which it has been since 1999 and since when MP's know they can't by leader of the SNP (other than Salmond for a brief spell when he fudged the rules)? Or she stayed so long as there was no obvious successor, which she largely was responsible for?
