It depends what you mean by benefits.

    Bus passes.....benefit?
    Heating allowance.....benefit?
    Disabled badge free parking....benefit?

Some would say none of these are benefits but I reckon they are.

Do all kids oaps and disabled folk need free travel......I'd suggest not

Do all oaps need the heating allowance......a fair number do, a big percentage don't.

Do disabled folk need free parking as well as priority parking......I'd suggest no.

When folk talk about benefits they are mainly talking about JSA and universal credit.

I'd suggest methadone was a benefit......most people would suggest it's health care.

Their is a culture in Scotland of state dependency ( well sucking at the teet of the state) but that seems to have spread to the rest of the UK as well.

I think those on zero benefits are now in the vast minority ( I'm not one of them ) and I just don't think this is sustainable in the long term without taxing the working more and more.

Real unpalatable things like wealth taxes or OAPs paying NICs or more severe inheritance tax.

I like the philosophy of keeping more of you're own hard earned rather than giving more away and getting a portion back.

To be fair I think the idea of helping those with young children is good but I also think it breeds fecklessness.

Read something in the paper at the weekend that 25% of under 25s will inherit more than theyl earn in their lifetime......an absolutely jaw dropping stat for me.

And what constitutes "disabled" these days is forever expanding.

Mental health, paranoid dope smokers, alcoholics, drug addicts......all seem to come under disabled now.

Didn’t see the BAFTAs but heard a bit of the acceptance speech where the NAZI regime was described as an extreme right wing leadership. I always thought that Hitler's fan base came almost exclusively from the blue collar workers who were really struggling.

In 1920, the Nazis were one of many small groups filled with disgruntled nationalists and ex-soldiers. Their growth, development and rise to power were shaped by the political and economic conditions in the Weimar Republic. Notice it was nationalism that brought Hitler to power. He defeated the democracy that was the philosophy behind the Weimar Republic. Hitler also created an enemy of the people to create unity, and the Holocaust was the result.

    Thanks for the information.
I was looking forward to Mrs Youself who is also a Dundee City Councillor continuing her court case to the bitter end.

There are still plenty of poor pensioners some of whom have a small superannuation which prevents them from claiming benefits which puts them in the poverty trap.
The Green Party in Scotland are anti business and pro the work shy.
