They appear to be predominantly of Roma extraction. I gave one of them a Tesco sandwich on Saturday evening and he looked very unimpressed. I wonder why?

During the day I see the homeless or early mornings.
You can always tell a real homeless person from a fake beggar.

I think I know the 'roma' folk you refer too. They used to stay in a block of flats in Menzies Road. My Son used to go to school with one of the little kids when he was in P1and they used to take him begging on Union Street, this is when it all started around 10 years ago and there were lots of them. They were shocked when social services got involved as people had reported the kid being used. He stopped going to School not long after that. Goodness knows what happened to to the poor wee thing.

I mind the Roma used to break open the lids of the outdoor dispensers for donations outside the PDSA shop in Torry and put the kids in to take the stuff out.

First They Came for the Jews

and I did not speak out --

because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for the communists

and I did not speak out --

because I was not a communist.

Then they came for the trade unionists

and I did not speak out --

because I was not a trade unionist.

Then they came for me --

and there was no one left

    to speak out for me.

They also came for Homo***uals and Lesbians,
They came for the Roma people and other gypsys

Careful folks we don't let Fascism creep on to this board !!!! Not calling anyone fascist far from it but some of the comments are not nice and using the word Fascism may seem over the top but its how this ideology starts,

I think we are a bit far into this thread to now worry about what is said about the Homo***ual, Lesbian or even Roma communities. That elephant left the room a while ago.

Most beggars whether genuine or fake, don't really bother anyone and we're not obliged to give them anything. There are a few in town I give a couple of quid to when I am passing and try and buy the Big Issue, when I can find a vendor in Aberdeen as it's usually famine or feast with them though.

With respect never to late to point something out, I just got the feeling the thread was beginning to take a nasty twist thats all, Having visited third world countries I'm very familiar with beggars and some really get to you others not so much but I am sympathetic to their plight wherever they are. One group I always give money to is buskers I have a personal rule never pass a busker without reward,

I gave him the sandwich , though, to recap, but he clearly wanted something else. And I honestly don’t think he was one of those beggars who was looking to buy drugs or drink. The grubbiest cup, with invariably brown change in it, isn’t coincidental. Few have change on them nowadays, far less of the brown variety.

Tesco's sandwiches are pretty unimaginative bordering on bland.
