Notts fans just need to know that if we end up in the play-offs there is more chance of us failing than succeeding. That's just how it is in a 6-team knock-out competition.

And that's even at the most optimistic projections.
Let's be generous and give ourselves a 70% chance of winning the home semi. Then be generous again and give a 60% chance of winning the final - that's a 42% probablity of promotion, 58% of staying NL

But that's as close to controllable as we're ever going to get. Strong management and a strong mentality can get the most of that 42% shot. We're a good, promotion worthy team and we've just got to prove it - any team that has ever achieved anything has had to do the same.
If you're mentally weak, too nervy, fearful and and negative-minded in sports, you're in the wrong game and deserve to lose.
I was being a bit tongue-in-cheek with my post, but the fact is I don't think we'll get promoted. It's not that I don't think we're a great side or that I'm overly pessimistic and defeatist. It's just that I think we're more likely to come second, and that we're then more likely not to win the playoffs than win them.

That doesn't mean I don't hope we win, or that the club should stop trying to win and give up. It's just that my time as a Notts fan has taught me never to expect things to go smoothly or well. Hope for the best, expect the worst.

Zooming out, however, things will still look good even if we don't go up. We've got great owners and a great manager. I don't think we'll suddenly fall into crisis like we did after the failed playoff campaign under Nolan/Hardy.

Totally understand, I just trust the Club will be more steely than that!
We have a great team and a fantastic chance of regaining league status - it won't be given to us, we're going to have to take it

Absolutely. I can't remember a time when I had so much faith in the owners, manager, and players to deliver success.

That said, I think we have about a 20% chance of finishing top, and a less than 50% chance of winning the playoffs, despite the fact we'd be by far the best team in it. Steeliness doesn't really come into it.

Yeah completely agree with this. We should have absolutely no fear of the playoffs. It’s not like other years where they’ll be teams who are obviously better than us or we’ve had glaring weaknesses. We’d be massive favourites to win them and I would expect us to.

Still in with a decent shot of the title though, no reason at all we can’t win 10 out of 10 if that’s what’s required.

We'd definitely be clear favourites to win them, and rightly so. But despite that, we'd still be less likely to win them than not to win them.

The thing is though that a high percentage of the Notts fan base have the same thoughts and during our pressure games especially at ML the fans go very quiet and nervy, the players feel that hence why Cameron especially has tried to get us going.
The previous play off defeats and even last years there is only half the squad that were here.
Macca and Scott won a title last year and we have a good few more players that have achieved promotions so a lot of winners in the squad and that's without Luke Williams who is a highly motivated individual who will do his upmost to make certain the players are as prepared as possible.
After all Notts County is the shell(that we all support)but its the players and Coaching staff that will decide our destiny(even if there are bad decisions) so lets forget the past remain positive about the present and the near future.
BTW I still think we have a good chance of going up automatically and still have to believe that(even if the majority of you don't) and get behind the lads - we have all seen title racers change in the last few games(Man City last few seconds) so we have to keep the pressure on Wrexham until it is mathematically impossible.
Us making lots of positive noise starting with Dorking Saturday will help(I can't sing for toffee but it doesn't matter at a football match)but try to wake people up in the main stand.
I don't like it when the Away supporters even the ones not bringing many fans make a lot more noise than 6-7000 Notts fans - what must the players think ?
