Where could we fly them to? We can not fly them to where they fled from. If they arrived after making their way to an EU country and then to the UK we cannot return them to that country because we are no longer in the EU.

The Rwanda policy has not worked and it would only ever accept a maximum of 300 people per year. Furthermore, there are problems about Rwanda. It is attacking neighbouring countries, resulting in it being a less safe place to be.

As regards a deterrent introduce sharks into the North Sea is one idea.. Coastguard / Navy is another.. as we are not at War we have plenty of Naval ships doing nowt so turn the boats around. Embark them if they do slip through, put them straight on a coach & drive them back through the Eurotunnel…

Many options & one point missed here, we who pay tax are paying for all these hotels & pizza bills… 🤬

We cannot put them on a coach and drive them through Eurotunnel because there is no road tunnel. We cannot send them back to any European Union country because the UK is no longer a member of the European Union.

The massive amounts of money being spent on hotels is because of the lamentably slow processing of people. This incredible expense is caused by this Conservative government not authorising better processing, whatever it takes. But the Conservatives actually want this controversy and needless expense in order to whip up anger amongst the general public about foreigners. It suits their right wing which governs the party, pulling the Sunak strings.

This substantial problem has occurred during the almost 13 years of a Conservative government and such government is responsible for dealing with it. The government has made it worse and made it horrendously expensive for tax payers. Of course it is totally legitimate to point out where the blame goes. Nobody else but the government can do anything about it. The government could at least authorise the necessary resources to better process the backlog of applicants and thus diminish the incredible amount of tax payer money spent on hotels.

I presume Stefan you have never been on the Eurotunnel??

I have, a vehicle is driven into a train with carriages, you drive onto it park disembark at the other end. It’s not a drive through as such..

See they have replaced the podium signs from Covid days of stay at home etc at No 10 to stop the boats 🤨

When I retired in 2008 things were getting tight financially for immigration and the Border Force but I understand that once the Tories got in they slashed spending even further under austerity. That’s why they have few boats and have cut back on staff at the ports as well as enforcement staff who undertake raids in the UK. FFS the RNLI have to step in and they’re a charity! Why is anyone surprised that we’re regarded as a soft touch?

You cannot drive them back through the Eurotunnel. They would travel in buses which travel on the train. The buses are not driving through the tunnel.

They cannot be transported by any method back to a European Union country because the United Kingdom is no longer a member of the European Union.

It depends what "the issue" is.

Is the issue really the small boats landing on our beaches or is it the concept of immigrants in general?

Prior to the Brexit vote the far right (inspired by the likes of Farage) started a deliberate campaign to whip up hatred of Eastern Europeans and warned that millions of Turks would arrive in the UK if/when Turkey joined the EU.

No-one knows for sure what impact that campaign had on the ultimate result, but it does seem clear that, for many on the right of the Conservative party, employment of similar tactics is now seen as their best chance of clinging on to power.
