There's less than 10 of us replied to this thread but it's an open board and it's all about opinions!

    What exactly is your opinion?

I'm assuming that being a Guardian reader that you agree with Lineker that all and sundry should rock up in little dinghies on our shores? Despite the fact that 9/10 of those arriving on boats are from countries like Albania and are simply coming for financial reasons.
I'm sure there's a room at your house for a few though eh, 123?
Superb reply sir. Exactly as would put it.

123, just because the views of the majority of posters on this board differ to yours, you make the ridiculous assumption that they all read the Daily Mail. Personally, I do not take any newspaper and certainly have never been a Daily Mail reader. What is even worse is that you believe anybody who disagrees with you are unintelligent and ignorant. I believe that this says far more about you than it does about those that you criticise. By the way, I do not believe that Lineker should be making political comments and should stick to footballing matters.

Never voted and never will and pointless as in my town the Tories win by a landslide anyway! Only option is a protest vote with the Lib Dem who don’t know their left foot from the right!

Immigrants will keep pouring in when they get goodies thrown at them! This is another reason why Putin laughs at the West and sees a huge weakness!

I think that anyone-including Mr Lineker-should be entitled to their own views and be able to voice them, providing they make it clear that they are their views and do not necessarily reflect those of their employees (film companies have long done so upon DVD releases). Of course, if such views are seen as violating any laws such as being racist/***ist then that is different and may be seen as "bringing the reputation" of their employees into "disrepute" by association and lead to dismissal. If he was a political correspondent then the situation might also be a little different given the BBC's purported political "impartiality" but he is simply a football pundit.

As for whether Lineker is right in his comparison, of course not BUT the UN would not have expressed concerns over nothing. The views of many in this country over immigration may well be influenced by the Right Wing Daily Mail lot but with levels of immigration rising from about 20,000 to 40 plus thousand a year this IS a major concern. The government themselves have been slow to deal with it-only in 2021 did Priti Patel get an agreement with Albania to send back illegals there (Albanians account for around 50% of all illegals and the majority are linked to criminality and people trafficking) and policing of our borders has been mostly woeful.

The majority of those coming over on small boats are now economic migrants rather than fleeing wars or conflict but they are still generally the innocents in this so talk of them sending them to Rwanda is not exactly humanitarian (which is what brings the new policy into conflict with EU law) but we obviously cannot support this level of immigration regardless of need. The methods (now available to view on the gov.uk website) may be harsh but difficult to disagree with the aims.

    Really Dubs?

Normally a very reasonable bloke but you think a comparison between this government and the Nazi’s and the Holocaust is fair?

I think that’s an insult to the millions who died from starvation and in gas chambers.

I agree! You also could have all these illegal
immigrants in Ireland if there’s any pity! I am sure a few Albanian’s would love to pull a few pints of Guinness whilst peddling drugs!

Not to mention all of those who fought and died to eradicate the Nazis. Not many families in this country unaffected by Hitler's ambitions in one way or another.

And it is absurd to compare our Govt to 1930's Germany?

There are a few comparisons, this government have criminalised peaceful protests, made it more difficult (for their opponents voter base) to vote by introducing voter ID. They've stripped British citizenship from British citizens. Criticized human rights act (I think removing it, or attempting to?) And most notably similar is they blame immigrants for all of society's problems.

All things done in Germany in 1930. Who by the way, had the support of propaganda outlets to condition the mind of population....propaganda outfits similar to that as the Daily Mail.
”And it is absurd to compare our Govt to 1930's Germany?”

Any concentration camps, plans of ”a final solution” or genocide as of yet?

    So absurd, or ignorant/offensive, yes.
