Incidentally during this era I was speaking a person who worked for RBS in Manchester and he told me that he could not understand how a club the size of Dundee FC could afford to sign Cannigia. We now know how they managed it. Borrowed money with little hope of paying it back.
No they didn’t. They thought paying Cannigia say £10k a week was good business if they sold him for £800k after less than a year at the club. Trouble was the other clubs did the same maths and brought in their own stars to sell on. Bosman changed all that.

The Bosman ruling was passed on 15th December 1995 and the Marrs purchased Dundee Football Club Limited in 1997. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bosman_ruling
Therefore the Marrs knew the transfer rules regarding the Bosman ruling with a least one high profile Scottish footballer having been transferred under the Bosman ruling in 1996 before the Marrs purchased Dundee Football Club Limited from Ron Dixon’s company in 1997.

Still think they were trying to get Dundee into a better place. Remember the stars they signed. Great excitement and wonderful entertainment. They did think they would sell players for more money than they paid in wages. Also built 2 stands, would that we had a new SE at the very least.

I think that work started on the two new stands before the Marrs purchased Dundee Football Club Limited.
It had been stated that Peter Marr’s plan was to sign top class players and then sell them for a high price was based on a signing and transfer policy put in place by Real Mallorca but that was pre Bosman.
Some of the players Dundee signed during the Bonetti era would never have been available to sign pre Bosman as they would have had to pay a very high transfer fee.

    Thank you for your information.
However no matter who owned Dundee Football Club Limited the two new stands would have had to be built to meet the Scottish League’s all seated requirements for a minimum 10,000 spectators in a football stadium to allow clubs to play in the Premier Division.
This rule has since been ‘watered down’ to permit Greater Glasgow based Hamilton Accies to qualify to play in their own stadium in the Premier League.

Hamilton isn't in the Greater Glasgow area - it's in South Lanarkshire.

It is close enough to Glasgow for the Scottish Premier League to change to rules to accommodate Hamilton Accies but forced ICT to play their home games at Aberdeen FC’s home ground at Pittodrie.
Inverness is over 100 miles from Aberdeen whilst Hamilton is a few miles from Motherwell.

Is Aberdeen close enough to Glagow to have league reconstruction forced through in order to prevent Aberdeen FC being relegated?

    Asking for a friend.

I seem to remember that there was no relegation one season from the Premier League because the team due to be promoted’s ground did not have required 10,000 all seated capacity.
