I’m no fan of Lineker, he’s an overhyped, over paid waffler as far as I’m concerned but it’s the double standards that pisses me off. The BBC lost all semblance of impartiality when they appointed Tories, Tim Davie and Richard Sharp to head the organisation and since then, they have demonstrated that they are not only, not impartial but actually a bonafide Government mouthpiece.
The rightwing and racists nut jobs of the Daily Mail are positively creaming themselves today at the prospect of “getting rid” of the “tax dodger” Lineker but conveniently ignore or just laugh off other BBC pundits who spew racist comments on Twitter.

Old_pie make no mistake, I hate the cancel culture regardless of who is getting cancelled, and I agree with you that the governance at the BBC has been poor for decades, but I think that's a cultural problem not unrelated to its archaic operating and funding model.
My point about it being impossible to be impartial is the broader one (philosophical, if you like) that nobody sees the world from an impartial position. Every time you open your eyes in the morning and watch what's happening in the world, either directly or already through someone else's filter, you're making your own conscious or sub-conscious interpretation of it. Every time you 'present facts' on a subject, you will make an editorial decision on which facts are relevant or irrelevant, important or not important, and those decisions are subjective. The moment the human brain gets involved, bias comes into play, and it influences everything we do, sometimes obviously, sometimes subtly.

I think the Lineker situation just demonstrates the right wing agenda of the head people at the BBC.
When Clarkson or Alan Sugar pipe up about politics its apparently fine.
Where as, if somebody expresses an opinion that doesn't fit in with the so called 'policies' of this shower of ****e government, then the Tory donor ****wits at the Beeb are left crying their eyes out like little babies. **** the Tories man and **** Richard Head, the Boris funding ****.
Okay own up, who locked MancMagpie in a room with East Coast Ultra?![]()
And that just about sums it up...
BBC was challenged by the tories to schedule more programs like Bargain Hunt that are about making a profit - or about the value of yer stuff, be that Antiques or Homes Under the Hammer, to make British culture more and about looking after number one. BBC has been doing the tories bidding for years.
It occurs to me that if you're a youngish, mid-ranking sports journalist/presenter at the BBC, possibly working out in the regions, there are certainly some potential career fast-tracking opportunities appearing on the horizon! Charlie, make sure your CV is up to date!![]()
