    Luther

Anyone else watched the new Luther movie on Netflix yet? I know it is all terribly over the top and stretches credibility but still, somehow, I quite enjoyed it and mostly because of Idris Elba.

I thought that the original tv series well, at least the first two seasons, were excellent and by far the best as they retained some elements of gritty reality despite the rather outlandish crimes and, of course, there was the interaction between Luther and mad as a box of frogs (or not) Alice. This relationship and Ruth Wilson were sadly missed in later episodes.

The movie has turned Luther into an almost comic book hero-having escaped from prison he donned his famed herringbone coat rather like Peter Parker putting on his Spider-Man outfit-and (spoiler alert) the closing moments seem to have set up the beginnings of a potential franchise whereby Elba needn't worry about a role as James Bond any more. Was half expecting to see Judy Dench appear when the car door opens at the end😀

I’ll be giving this a watch but I find that for me, he overacts.

The MH370 missing plane documentary is best new thing I’ve seen on Netflix.

Enjoyed the film, very Bond-esque and Andy Serkis was good as the villain.

The MH370 documentary as Mick says is a good watch and Omega this may sound a little cringe mate but your writing style is top notch.

Idris Elba was always touted to be Bond and the reason he was never given the nod is because he'd be flippin rubbish and that he walks like a duck! I bet ya never noticed that.

Don't really know how to respond to that WCV but thanks for the compliment!😁

As for MH370 it's now on my watch list as recommendations on here are generally spot on and sounds interesting.

With that hunched, head-down, bow-legged walk of his he certainly has a distinctive gait doesn't he ?😀 Still, I can't remember him walking like this in other things I've seen him in so maybe all part of the Luther "character"? My understanding is that Neil Cross wrote the part with Elba in mind too.

As for Bond, he's too old for it now, but tbh I thought he might have made a decent job of it. The Bond thing is funny though. My own favourite Bond actors are Connery and Craig (probably because they were a bit closer to the grittier Bond in the books than the suave and jokier Brosnan or Moore) but I remember all the furore and p iss taking that Craig had to endure when he was first revealed to play him. All the "you can't have a blonde actor play him" and how he got allegedly sea sick doing stunts and wasn't " man enough" for the role. Then Casino Royale comes out and the reboot is a welcome return to something like the character Fleming envisaged and, IMHO, one of the best movies in the franchise. Be interesting to see who gets picked for the next reboot.

Inclined to agree. Also thought he started disappearing up his own backside a while back. Pity he hasn't finished the job. Never mind. There's always time.
