My argument was that I had more to align me with, say, a brickie from Sheffield or a joiner from Tyneside than, say, scum like Michael Forsyth and Malcolm Rifkind*.

That was my position too, until I started working with them. Perhaps I’ve just been unlucky but the overwhelming majority I’ve met, have had views that would make a hun blush.

Again I find myself agreeing with you. Hobson's choice in the extreme. But this is all part of Sturgeon's legacy. Nobody was allowed to shine or develop under her.. such a megalomaniac was she. Control freakery down to a fine art. And of course tied in with that is the vetting process only Yes Men and Women need apply. and the gerrymandering of the NEC.
