Your estate agent was Micky Mouse for allowing this to happen! I took a rental in December and had to provide 6 months worth of statements showing affordability and we were checked out for any convictions! It was like going through a mortgage application!

At 18 - I had a 10 grand loan to buy my first car and barely any checks! Can you get a 10 grand loan now without such checks?
I don’t know about interest only mortgages as I’m not applying for mortgages now.

It’s p I s s easy to get credit cards even now even if you you are in poor circumstances.

As for my estate agent.

I have dealt with this agent for a very long time and I trusted them implicitly.

I am extremely loyal to people who provide me services and I’ve been with the same solicitor and accountant, shipping agent and other business providers for 25 to 45 years.

As a family we’ve been totally f u c k e d over on this occasion and legal recourse will be sought.

Ineptitude and negligence of an extreme degree have taken place with this property.

Estate agents are not properly regulated in my opinion.

I’ve been amazed over the past week as I’ve visited around 20 estate agents to warn them about these rogue tenants, 95% of the “specialist” letting managers at these places are actually unaware of proper procedure and of certain bodies that tenants can use to make life horrendous for landlords.

Estate agents are poorly trained and not up with the law and are loose with paperwork and checks and cavalier in their rush to make a commission.

The industry needs regulating much more rigorously.
