how so mate? admittedly i wasn't over enamoured at his appointment but by f uck he's grown on me. A proper manager who takes no sh1t is what we've needed for a few years now, not afraid to drop players and change things up
if we dfo go down, which is still likely i would want him in place for next season 100%
100 % agree. Had huge doubts when he came in & never liked him previously but hes saying the right things & has def got something more out of these very average players than I thought possible. Things could still go either way this season but he could be just what we need should we go down. Hes grown on me too
There is also the potential for a fairly big rebuilding job with Newman, Smith, Edwards, Harkes, McGrath, Pawlett & Ayina out of contract/end of loan. Birighitti will also need replaced. Goodwin has a head start on any new manager coming through the door in the summer.
Think Goodwin would do a good job for us whichever division we end up in.
He definitely knows what's needed, seems to be able to galvanise the players attitude.
Thing is I think we still have a so called recruitment team and Goodwin would definitely want more say on the players he wants signed than Mellon Courts and Fox got so that would need sorting out.
Looking at that list wouldn't be surprised to see Edwards away, and with Ayina heading back south that would leave us with out of favour Ross Graham and an ageing Mulgrew. We're going to need 2 GK's, a RB, two CB's, a defensive mid, a replacements for Harkes and McGrath, and a back up striker. Just for starters.
Djoum was given 2 years? 😪
Thanks Tony.
Don’t forget Watt - incredibly he’s contracted until 2025. Obviously (surely!) he’s not got a future with us, but please, can we stop this nonsense of contracted guys being allowed to just ‘walk away’ (like Clark, Carson and Courts). If they want to leave , fine. But get some sort of transfer fee in, yeh? We’re entitled to it for FFS.
Jim Goodwin has an excellent managerial record. Even going in to the break this season Goodwin had Aberdeen sitting third and their fans were happy. It all went wrong late December and January. It seems being 2-1 up against the huns then losing 2 goals in injury time knocked the stuffing out of them. They then played well in the cup semi against them until the now dumped Stewart got himself sent off. Basically a 5 week period of his managerial career things went badly.
I think we are fortunate that we had the calibre of manager of JG available at this time. There is no need at this stage to be talking about whether he should be here next season or not. I am confident though we now have the right man in place.
