Plymouth had the best result of the day and Wednesday the worst.

To achieve automatic promotion it is down to Barnsley making up five points on Plymouth and Ipswich over the next five games ( Ipswich because of a vastly superior goal difference which will never be overturned).

Plymouth ------Shrewsbury A, Cambridge H, Bristol Rov H, Burton H, Port Vale A

    Ipswich--------Port Vale H, Peterborough A, Barnsley A, Exeter H, Fleetwood A

    Barnsley-------Lincoln A, Oxford H, Ipswich H, MK Dons A, Peterborough H

I still take the old school view that it is better to have the points in the bag than play catch up.

But who knows ? Twists and turns to come.

Edit ---The above post should read Plymouth OR Ipswich, assuming Wednesday can be written off, which is not yet a given as they are three points above us. The splendid chaps from Sheffield 6 could well have a strong finish to the season and have the last laugh.

    Wednesday-----Bristol Rov A, Exeter H, Shrewsbury A, Derby H

Despite Ipswich absolutely steaming along, I wouldn't want their run in.

Plymouth had that tricky game at Exeter and came through so promotion is theirs to lose on paper.

Wednesday are bottling it big time. Their defeat to us started the ball rolling with 1 win in their last 8 games. However, they can still achieve automatic but it looks unlikely now.

Barnsley have to win their remaining 5 games to have any chance imo

Barnsley--maximum points possible--96 pts from five wins. IF Barnsley won all five games left----

Plymouth would need 11 pts from 5 games to achieve 97 pts--three wins, two draws

Ipswich would need 11 pts from 5 games (because of GD) to achieve 96 pts. For Ipswich to get 96 pts the assumed defeat at Barnsley would mean getting 11 pts from 4 games and, as there is not 2pts for a draw, it would mean 4 wins are needed.

Wednesday would need 12 pts from 4 games to achieve 96pts and also need to maintain their 2 goal better GD on Barnsley

The Barnsley-v-Ipswich game is the only game left where top four clubs play each other.

All this could/will be thrown in the air by a nearly full programme of Third Division fixtures on Tuesday, when all the top four play.

Ipswich fans will be thinking that they'll beat Port Vale midweek but then come arguably two of their toughest fixtures of the season when they travel to London Rd on Saturday 22nd then Oakwell on Tuesday 25th. Arses could be well and truly nipping in Suffolk that week

You can drive yourself barmy with all the permutations and I fell in to that trap yesterday lunchtime .

The Plymouth win pyssed me off because they didn't really deserve it and it left me a bit flat even before our game kicked off .

Even though we won 5-1 i hardly celebrated any goal we scored and seemed to spend way too much time checking in on how Wendy and Ipswich were doing .

    It's madness .

15 points left to play for including what could be a monumental game at home to Ipswich Town .

Just stick in there , hopefully keep winning and see how it pans out .

    Easy to say mind .

I really want us to take it to the last game and still be in with a shout of automatic promotion , preferably in our own hands but I'll settle for having to rely on at least one of the two to bugger the last game up .

A number of things driving this , firstly I really don't fancy us in the play offs and it will hurt like hell to see the players and Duff devastated after the remarkable effort they've produced this season .

Secondly , we haven't celebrated a home promotion clincher since April 1997 , the club and town are due one .

Thirdly it's my stag party , off to the last game and in to town afterwards , it's a bank holiday the next day so the gloves are off on a reight good drink , it would make a perfect day should we clinch automatic promotion with everyone celebrating in the town afterwards like we did in 97 .

I thought it was just me Animal getting stupidly wrapped up in how the others were doing ! It’s no good for our mental well being this simple game of football but I have to give credit to these lads for getting us into this position. You Reds !

I fancy us in the play offs. Our better performances of late have come against top 6 teams.

Yesterday, despite the big win, it was poor viewing and an average performance as it has been in more of the games against the lower teams a lately.

I expect a decent game of football against Lincoln and a scrap against Oxford. The Ipswich game should be aesthetically pleasing if there's lots still on it. In fact it'll be a hum dinger and hopefully another occasion where we can rise to the challenge
