Back in the day famous old clubs would be re-elected by committee if they finished at the bottom. But sentiment as long gone and many of these clubs now languish in the National League. Looking at that league I noticed Oldham who were once in the Prem. Sc4nthorpe utd were in the Championship and have just been relegated out of the National League. It's a long way back for many of them, perhaps never to be seen again.
