That's not the Conway (Arseoyle) I love to hate.

His model of player trading was buy the unknown, buy young, buy cheap, develop if they are capable, sell.

This season, under the new board, we have a collection of free transfers and loanees. Fortunately for Parekh he can ride on the coat-tails of Duff's achievements with that group.

All true what you say & in fairness after last years disaster appointments of the two head coaches credit must be given to Parekh for learning from their mistakes & appointing Duff this season , Parekh might be riding on his coat tails but he did not arrive here via the head coach fairy & Barnsley might have been a difficult sell considering the mess we were in & getting Duff over the line in my opinion was a job well done , lets hope they continue to support him !!!

I think what you are describing there is the Cryne recruitment model and not what Conway did.
Conway strayed away from the spreadsheets - hence the 2 Belgian signings.

As for Neerav hanging onto the coat tails of Duff.
Firstly it was Neerav and the other directors that identified Michael Duff as a head coach that would fit the Barnsley style of playing.
Then it was the directors that went out and appointed Duff.

Then it was the directors that told Duff what style of football is played at Barnsley - and it’s the directors exclusive responsibility to identify and bring in players that are capable of playing that style.
That is to say - Duff couldn’t choose the general style of play and he couldn’t choose what players were brought into the club.

Duffs role in all of this was to comment on the players the directors were looking to sign - and then go out and coach those players.
Duff has done a brilliant job doing that.

But let’s not overlook or devalue the role of the directors who have determined the style of play and who have identified and brought in the players capable of playing that style.

And when Michael Duff leaves - and let’s hope that he leaves to manage a club that’s willing to pay him mega bucks - because if he does then his time at Barnsley will have been a successful one - but when he leaves the continuity of the club has now been reset and restored - so the next head coach will dovetail straight into the role and will keep the momentum rolling.

Finding a new manager that brings his own style of football and wants his own players bringing in to play that style of football has gone.
No more throwing the baby out with the bath water.
    Thank goodness.

Conway had a short period when he was Acting CEO and touring Europe looking to get involved with further clubs when he listened to people who were recommending Iseka and Oulare. Conway hadn't a clue and fell for it big time.
The rest of the time he was pushing the Billy Beane style spreadsheet model. Ask Stendel at the time of "the best transfer window in BFC history".

If you think Duff is the type to listen to directors as to how to play then I have to disagree. Duff is shrewd enough to look at opponents and go with a style that will hopefully bring the best result. It is not constant "high press". I would say only Ismael played that card every game. Certainly not Struber or Schopp or Asbaghi..

The Directors didn't go out and get Duff. They invited applications and from those interviewed Duff, Hasselbaink, Eric Ramsay (Man U set piece coach) and Devaney. Probably a no brainer from those who applied.

What you see at Barnsley right now is a direct result of what Patrick Cryne was talking about at supporters meetings years ago.
That is - the need to change the playing style and recruitment at Barnsley.
I didn’t understand what Patrick was describing at the time but it’s clear to see now.

If supporters think that the appointment of Duff was some sort of lucky break - then they are not really listening to what the directors are saying.
Of course Duff changes the tactics to beat an opponent - but the general style of play - the high press system with our goalkeeper being the first line of attack remains the same.

So its down to Bolton or Derby or Peterbrough then, for us in the Play offs.
I'd be interested to know as well, what they all think about possibly facing us.

Hi Acido, looking forward to it because if/when we beat Accy tonight we should sew up 5th spot which almost certainly mean Wanderers will play you in the semi finals. It’s not mathematically certain but I can’t see Posh getting anything off you in their last game and even so we have 2 more potentially winnable games left to get what we need. I think Derby will scrape in 6th. We will have all our injured players back by then too so pretty much a full strength squad. When you look at the play offs though, four big sides for this level it really does make you think? So how do you see it and are you confident because you’ve had a cracking run. Personally I think it’s anybodies because all four of us can beat the others on our day. We just have to make sure it’s our day, all 3 times.

Isn't that a weird contradiction ehh, BarnsleyWhite lol, its like somebody calling themsenns BoltonRed. 😊
Even though there's only a few league games left, there's still so many possibilities regarding the Play offs.
If our final place is already cemented on the last day, then I would think that Peterbrough might have extra incentive to beat us!.

Contradiction yes but I live in Barnsley but am originally from Bolton so life’s been a contradiction I suppose. You’re right about the varying possibilities still to come and one bad result can be disastrous but I just can’t see much changing now. Obviously mathematically things can change but I don’t expect them to very much. I think posh have blown it now and will let Derby slip into the No6 spot and unless you upset them tonight I expect Ipswich to pip Wendies for the automatics. Good luck tonight anyway.

Well you know more about living in Barnsley taarn than I do, cos I don't, if you see what I mean. 😁
We've already drawn and won at the new Burnden park stadium this season, so our next visit could become a hat trick of visits.
And bear in mind after winning there, we had to go to Derby in the next round, so we might have to go there again, also for the third time.
