Just looking through the results. Most of no surprise at all.
I was just laughing at my old constituency, where I grew up Ashfield.
Out of all those seats, only 2 Torys and 1 Labour got in.
You could have never found a more die hard Labour area than that in Notts.
Now they hate the main parties and voted all the Independents in.
Sort of makes Swales Political genius theories, look like complete tosh.
Actually if you actually had the capacity to think, you would see it makes them a reality, nobody but a few saddos is interested in fake culture wars, they are more concerned with the real stuff in life that affects them. At a local level one can quite see why either of the major parties would be ignored.

Thats probably because you aren't in an area where they are targeting, got loads of Labour leaflets, plus the odd (very odd) independent group who seemed very like UKIP despite insisting they weren't a political group, seeing as their policies were straight from UKIP!! Not a single Tory leaflet though.

If these results follow through in a General Election looks like will be Lab Dem coalition this time.

Tories had an awful set of results but not sure Labour had that good a night, 9 points gap I think which is lower than polls. Lib Dems seem to be the party on the up.

That said I bet overall turn out was poor and local elections not always a good guide.

Libdem always do better locally than nationally as, in part, protest votes can be much more effective when there are smaller "constituencies" and lower turnouts. Also in my limited experience Libdem have a better "touch" at local level, much like residents association type councillors.

I'd be surprised if they make similar inroads at a GE and, whilst they may prevent Labour holding an overall majority, I'm not expecting a formal coalition - although that might be the best outcome, especially as I'm officially a pensioner now.

What will be interesting to see is the extent that Bre-entry plays a part in the debate in (I surmise) January 2025. Hopefully little as it would distract everyone from the more immediate issues, but I'm not confident it will be sidelined.

Still that's a whole new 10k thread in the making

Really? So a whole electorate borough, are a few saddos then?

If you read it closely enough, you will see that THEY TOLD THE MAIN STREAM PARTIES to sod off.
They voted the Independents in. No tacticle voting, or voting because I always have.
    They said, NO!!!

As I read it today, if they transferred this to the election vote. Labour would get in on a hung parliament.
So the The tories have another brething space, to spew more crap for the run in, whilst no ideas Starmer has probably already shot his bolt early.

So round and round we go.

Here's a bit of homewrok for you.
Come back and tell us what the turn out was. I'll give you a hint, it was shocking.
Another example of how much the general population is turned off, by greedy and virtue signalling politicians.

Come now, Mr. P...being ‘officially a pensioner’ isn’t something that new to you is it? Aren’t you in your third year, one behind me, of senior citizen status?

Anyway...losing 1060 council seats is, whichever way you look at it, quite a hammering. Surpassed everyone’s expectations (and fears) I suspect and a complete change of values, attitudes and direction will be needed if the Tories are to avoid annihilation at the next GE. Let’s not also forget quite where Labour have come from since 2019.

Doubtless Tricky will continue to bang on about Corbyn, Abbott, alleged letter box thefts and other irrelevancies, but the real questions are about the honesty, integrity and competence of those in power and the Tories have failed spectacularly on all counts over the last four years.

The times are indeed ‘a changin’’...though having spotted Nick Cave amongst the ‘dignitaries’ in Westminster Abbey this morning nothing would surprise me.

Glad to see the royalist in you has you glued to the coronation - can't say I will be.

Not yet drawing pension but have been due since mid 2021. Thus this will be my first GE as a pensioner and so naturally my self interest changes now 😄. Or maybe it should have one GE ago had I more foresight!

Not exactly ‘glued’. Just watching over breakfast. Think it’s all archaically ridiculous but oddly fascinating for all that.

Bet you’re claiming your state pension...time to hang up your inkwell and abacus you old git!
