    Almost 1 In 4

According to figures today almost 1 in 4 Scots are "out of the labour market and not seeking jobs" What exactly does that mean? I presume it means those not in further education or OAP's?
Not 1 in 4 are unemployed and looking for work but 1 in 4 are unemployed and have no intention of working, that canny be right? The plan seems to be to relax Brexit and immigration laws to get Johnny Foreigner over here and put him to work, be a better plan to cut the Giro by a tenner a week till the ****s get a job.

Still seeking some form of state handout though paid for by ever decreasing tax paying base.

    I'm in this group.

Think the definition is below state pension age and not in full time education.

No worked for 10 years in Oct.

Do I miss it, not one iota, hated the last ten years with a passion and my view is if I can found myself.....why not.

I do get one state benefit, carers allowance which is £70 a week or thereabouts but I feel I provide a lot of care for that £70.

I think COVID and lockdown made people move plans forward for retirement and can't blame them I've enjoyed the last decade far more than my working years.....and there's nothing to stop more lockdowns in the future.

But above is why Scotland could not afford independence imho.

I think for some benefits you have to be actively seeking employment so I'm guessing that 1 in 4 doesn't count them? Makes the figures even more mind boggling.

Most benefits you don't have to be seeking work, only JSA back in the day, that's probably incorporated into uni versial credit now.

Working tax credit and that you have to be working 16 hours.

Pip you don't have to work or seek work

    Dla the same

ESA you don't have to if in care group.

    Scottish adult same as PIP

Working tax credit paid to those on low income who work minimum of 16 hours.

Pip....personal independence payment ....payed to the disabled who have mobility issues or need care. Mobility component can be given up for new car.......paid by UK govt and reasonably strict criteria but can be manipulated.

Dla forerunner to PIP but some folk still in receipt. Paid by UK.

ESA.....employment support allowance, knowledge slightly sketchy but you fall into two groups, those sick but expected to look for work and those sick and not expected to look for work. Qualify by either contributions based IE paid stamp or income based your skint.

Scottish adult disability, same criteria as PIp but paid by Scottish govt who get the dough from UK govt.

Much easier to get on than pip, severe dandruff and excema and you have a chance.

Scottish govt want success rates per application to be 75% and whatever claimant says is to be believed......think me to movement for benefit, worth around £700 per mth

S Scottish govt were meant to take over the payment for pip but have bottled it and pushed back to 2026.

About ten years ago a number of Islay residents who had been on the long term sick and receiving benefits suddenly were back working as the DSS clamped down on this abuse of the benefits system.
