The decision by Notts is more than understandable. The football world moves on quickly which is why if a Civic Reception was to be held it needed to be done straight after promotion.

Having it in July also means that we now know players like Rodrigues are no longer at the club, and also there are new players that have come in during that time so it's not the same group either.

Nottingham City Council had more than enough time and opportunity to prepare for a potential civic reception as we have been knocking on the door to promotion for the past four years having been in the playoffs each season.

Hopefully we won't have to wait 13 years until the next promotion, but let's hope that lessons have been learned by Nottingham City Council for next time.

At least those fans who could get down to Meadow Lane had an opportunity to greet the players as they returned from Wembley and got to go out with them around Nottingham and celebrate which would have been a better experience.

Which of our previous promotions resulted in a Civic Reception?

I'm too young to know but when Notts went up to the top flight in 1991 what happened then, did they have anything in Market Square.

I'm sure at least one of the two Warnock promotions had the players waving to fans from the balcony in the market square, though despite being a reasonably dedicated fan at the time (going to every home game and some away) it wasn't something I was remotely interested in attending, but that's not to say I don't think we should have had one.

Not sure if Fword got one for winning the Simod Cup in 1989 however which was watched by 47k at Wembley. If not then it's harder to make a case for Notts getting one for a promotion from non-league to be honest.

I honestly dont care about this.

The players and fans had a great time at the ground a day after and by all accounts players mingled with fans for a beer. That’s better than anything the council could have done IMO.
In hindsight it he club could have had its own reception at ML with beer and burgers a plenty. Maybe on the pitch before it was relayed.
As others have said, we have moved on and having something in July would be pointless.

I'd much prefer your outline of an idea next time we are victorious. At Meadow Lane. With players, staff and real fans. Not some orchestrated glad handing with "no mark" Concillors who have probably never seen Notts play.
