Didn't you say yesterday we were going to follow the Brentford model ? Retaining our best players and then adding one or two quality additions each year to gradually grow the club.

It looks like the same old buy young and cheap, develop those that are capable of developing, and then sell for whatever someone will pay. And repeat.

Clearly you haven’t taken much notice of who Brentford have bought and sold.

I’m really hoping Mads doesn’t go to Luton. After his experience here initially it would be a shame if he went back to being shown up to be wanting in the Premier League, and it set him back two years. A high end Championship side is my wish for him…( so that rules Huddersfield out …..Lol). And a bit more consolidation. He’s worth £3-5m now. And a good 15%sell on for later.

Brentford owner Matthew Benham has invested £104.4 mill into club, including £22.8 mill for the new stadium.

They have continuity of head Coach with Thomas Frank

21/2 InAjer 15, Onyeka 10, Wissa 10 out all free
    20/21 In Toney 6 out Watkins 34 Benrahma 23

Totals In cost £129 mill --- out received £62 mill

SB - just had a quick look at Google.
Brentford £130 M income from sales in the last few years.
    Presumably all of it reinvested.
Steady build up over the years.

The owner has not just tipped £104 M into the club and hoped for the best.
As I assume you want the Barnsley owners to do.

Andersen arrived for a reported £900K to £1mill and left for a reported £3 million. A return of £2million for our development of him over the years.

At some point the pump has to be primed to start the upwards spiral. This is what the Brentford owner has done following a plan, a strategy.
We are living hand to mouth-a share issue here, a sale there--just to scrape along with no coherent plan.

I agree re: pump to be primed.
A couple of million over what’s expected wouldn’t go amiss.
I definitely don’t want us to go down the Wednesday / Derby route tho and end up with debt that crushes future seasons.

It’s laughable to think that Wednesday supporters were saying that they were in for Mads.
I can’t see them spending anywhere near £3 M on a player this season.

Just face it, we are a tin pot nothing club who constantly gets the pyss ripped out of us by other league clubs. It's gone on for years has this kind of thing. It's only a matter of time till our fans say enough is enough. Peterborough get paid well for their star players but Barnsley get the pyss taken out of us.

What is our record transfer fee received? 4m for Ashley Ward to Blackburn back in 1998 might be a contender. Other clubs know that Barnsley are run badly by people who couldn't organise a pyss up in a brewery and take advantage every time.

Pass - I think yer right.
Other clubs have looked at Barnsley and thought ‘they will accept owt at that club because the owners are skint’.
    And they haven’t been wrong.

    But things have changed.
Many of us thought it had changed when Chien Lee got hold of the club.
That we could resist cheap offers for our players - but not only did that not happen - that gang went out to actually sell the players.

I don’t think this is the case with the present leadership.
In Neerav we have an owner that no one has yet worked out - and that includes people from other clubs looking at our players.
It’s currently very interesting what’s been said at Millwall re: Stiles.
    Some disgruntled comments there.
They thought they could get him for peanuts and it’s not happening.

I know I keep harking back to the supporters meeting last season - basically because up untill now it’s the only time I’ve met Neerav.
But he did say more than once at that meeting that no player will leave from now on unless the offer meets the club’s valuation - and if that means his contract will be run down then so be it.

It’s a new ball game at Barnsley.
Even through all the turmoil at the start of last season the new leadership still managed to give us a flavour of it.
IMO - Barnsley did brilliantly well last season when considering everything that had happened during the previous season.
We should have been nowhere near the top 6 last season.

Duff leaving has knocked the wind out of the sails again.
But I for one am looking forward to this coming season.
