Lets be straight it is brave to judge a player after just 2 games, especially if they are just friendlies. Yes you are likely to get things badly wrong, unlike the bad old days, under #radar, but it is preferable to the polar opposite of forever sitting on the fence and using the infamous 'hindsight card.

I agree with that, but for me it's also about forming first impressions. I like an initial look at new signings, but my first impressions are aware of the nature of the games and count for very little going forward. I always try and judge players game by game if I give match ratings*. My first impressions of Stone were 50/50 - he was hung out to dry by his defence, but only made routine saves.

    * I once gave David Vaughan MOM. You can't get any more unbiased than that!

I was in the corporate bit the day he actually did win sponsors MOM. It was the 0-0 v Preston over Christmas (Stead missed pen). He looked almost embarrassed to take it (and rightly so IMO)

The guy was poor in his first two games. It no good kidding yourself saying otherwise. Thats what this thread is about. He may well turn out to be a brilliant keeper, So lets just hope so..

To be fair, they're probably not best mates with Mark Stallard either.

Poor in his first game? Kept a clean sheet and had b*gger all to do. Distribution certainly not poor. Hard to count Saturday as it was against higher opposition than we will face in league games. One or two misplaced passes out from the back, but always looked confident in that area of his game. He also made one very good save, ironically from one of his misplaced passes lol.

I personally think it’s best to get views from his previous club if he’s hardly played for us. If we judged Slocombe on his last game we would say he’s absolutely calamity and to not touch him with a barge pole. The guys played a lot of league football, had a promotion at a young age for a keeper, so my gut says he’s gonna be decent for us.
