Notts are woeful. I think you understand my point about the draw recently when we discussed not going for it

You're probably right, I wouldn't trust this bunch to go for anything. I remember when Chris Read was skipper, if we bowled the opposition out for 166 on day one and were 87/5 at the close we would be looking at a decent first innings lead on day two. The last five wickets regularly contributed more than the first five because we had guts. I believe we have the talent in the squad to compete higher, we just don't have the desire and mental strength

It has been noticeable that Hampshire got the best of the conditions, when posting their second innings total. Whenever there has been cloud cover the ball has been hooping around. Having said that, Notts batting is very brittle.

If we can survive until close of play today, the weather forecast for tomorrow could help us scrape an undeserved draw.

Still 48 overs left though, and when this stand is broken we don't have a lot of batting to come.

A fair effort in the second innings, but the cowardly surrender in the first defined the game.

Hopefully Middles ex and Northants will continue to be worse than us.

As you imply, Elite, let us hope that there are 2 sides worse than Notts in this league to enable them to secure a place in division 1 for next season. 4 games left of which 2 are against Kent and 1 v Middle***. Both teams are currently below Notts in the table so Notts’ fate is v much in their own hands, even allowing for the fact that the teams below them have game(s) in hand. I think they should have enough character to see the job through and, if not, they get exactly what they deserve.

Can't say I'm keen on this interrupted County Championship, but I suppose the one day games bring in the cash. We are at home to Kent on Tuesday, then have no games in this format until we go there on 10th September.

Frustrating that we didn't see out the overs yesterday, today has been awful here and I don't think a ball would have been bowled.

Interesting final day in prospect tomorrow. The forecast is for a dry day, so I hope we go all out for the win. That would mean a mad thrash to get another 120 or so runs with 9 wickets in hand to leave a bit of time to bowl them out. Even though Luke Fletcher is unlikely to bowl, this is a very weak Kent side. Calvin Harrison might go for a few, but he is capable of taking wickets.
