Colin Slater claimed it was in excess of £1 million.

In the end we didn't pay a penny. Like so many other dodgy transactions in the Munto con season.

The gang of shysters "running the club" did a runner, leaving the real Notts County with a lot of unpaid bills.....

But there must have been some money sloshing around, and much more than there was before. The players were being paid as far as I know, at least at first, and the likes of Hughes, Kasper, and Davies can't have been cheap.

Also, how do you agree to a seven-figure transfer with another club and not give them any money?

But surely the transfer wouldn't legally be completed until the funds were transferred. Why would Man City just give us Kasper without receiving anything in return?

Manchester Evening News at the time... "KASPER Schmeichel has left City to team up with his old boss Sven-Goran Eriksson at Notts County for a club record £1m. The 22-year-old keeper has signed a five-year contract at Meadow Lane."

It all seems to be so much more complicated these days with sell on fees, "undisclosed", add ons after so many appearances or whatever. Not sure we'll ever be able to compare like with like and say for certain whether or not records have been broken.

I'm still convinced that SOME money must have been spent during Munto or otherwise people owed would have kicked up a fuss much earlier, my hunch is (hope I'm allowed to say on here) that Russell King was the main link to the actual money and when that Sun article came out the day after Sol left ( the one that Trembiling said he got a writ against or something like that) then I think King and any others panicked and stopped funding things.

I always thought the Kasper fee was about installments and add-ons. And that the reason we were happy to give him away free after just one season to Leeds was to avoid as many of those as possible.

    I may be wrong tho...

For sure. Players like Hughes, Davies, and Kasper would have been on a decent wage, and if they weren't being paid from the start, things would have got messy fast. It felt more like the plug was pulled at some point, as you pointed out. Where the money to fund those signings came from is anyone's guess, because the club had bugger all during the Trust era prior to that season.

Like most other people, they believed it all to above board. And you dont question the integrity of Al Thani family wealth...
