ROTHERHAM United are hoping to seal two more loan deals for players from Premier League clubs.

Manager Matt Taylor confirmed after yesterday's 3-0 pre-season win at Lincoln City that discussions are taking place with top-flight teams.

However, there is no guarantee that either move will happen before next Saturday's opening-day Championship clash at Stoke City.

The Millers have already raided the Premier League this month, bringing in ****aged Wolverhampton Wanderers right-back Dexter Lembikisa and 26-year-old Luton Town winger Fred Onyedinma for the 2023/24 campaign.

"We might get closer to a couple more loans as next week progresses," manager Matt Taylor said.

But the boss stressed that top-flight teams reported back for pre-season training later than second-tier sides and most of them are happy to assess their talented youngsters in training and friendlies rather than send them out for game-time right now.

Rotherham are on the brink of wrapping up a full deal for free-agent attacker Andre Green who scored in both of his trial games after returning to England following his departure from Slovan Bratislava in Slovakia

Terms have been agreed and club and player are now just waiting for the Slovakian and English FAs to issue international clearance, which could come as soon as tomorrow.

Taylor is hoping that a work permit is finally granted at some stage next week to allow midfielder Christ Tiehi to complete a permanent move from Slovan Liberec in the Czech Republic.

Meanwhile, an offer remains on the table for veteran striker Billy Sharp after his release by Sheffield United, but the Millers have looked elsewhere while they have been kept waiting for more than a month for a decision and are continuing to pursue other frontmen.

There has been no movement in the situation between Rotherham and the former Blade in the last few days.

In addition to the two loans he wants to finalise, Taylor is keen to further reinforce his squad before the September 1 close of the transfer window and he says offers have been made for targets.
