    this transfer window

this has been a really good window for us, its something we are not used to.

    Reece Byrne academy
    Yankuba Minteh academy
    Cathal Heffernan academy incoming
    Kevin Zefi academy incoming

    Sandro Tonali
    Harvey Barnes
    Tino Livramento

hopefully we go and get Lewis Hall from Chelsea and we are sorted.

I can see us bringing in a big signing before the window closes though or maybe a big loan deal maybe Laporte from Citeh

It’s been good but I’m still a bit underwhelmed. Especially as other clubs around us have strengthened considerably.

It’s clearly not quite gone our way other than with the Tonali deal.

Barnes seems to have been a 2nd or 3rd choice and Livramento deal probably cost us more than we would have liked, hence the deal being done so late in the window.

I wanted to see a proper holding midfielder, a quality right winger (Diaby), Maddison, a top quality left back and a centre back. Maybe even a backup number 9.

I understand FFP has hindered us.

Hall and Laporte would be incredible but I can’t see it happening.

We are stronger now than we were, but we are in for a very tough season. Honestly I’d take 6th right now.

I keep seeing other fans predict we will get top 4 and that our defence is awesome. But we won’t and it isn’t.

We didn’t keep a clean sheet for something like 16 games towards the end of the season.

On the plus side, based on preseason, Gordon and Andersen might feel like new signings, with Miley impressing also.

Surprised we didn’t sell more players too.

So far, it's been a good window.

We've bought three excellent players with a very good pedigree.

Would be interesting to see how we rate it if we don't get any more players coming in (or going out-Fraser, Hendrick and Hayden are still on the books).

We obviously need more and the club know that...and, just as importantly, want to get more players in but we're having to be so canny with FFP that it might not be possible.

I agree. I think its been a very good window. It will be excellent if we land another player and sell one or two.

    Reckon it could still happen.

I’m not sure if it’s been a good window or not, we definitely strengthened a little. I feel we are over paying for players. I feel we need Gordon, Anderson and Miley have good seasons they could Be like new signing.

It’s hard to criticise, but am gonna ;-), as this is massively different to windows past as we are coming into it after a very successful season with Champions League footy guaranteed.

Tonali has been the highlight of the window… he looks like a massive upgrade on Longstaff and gives us a bit of depth in the middle.

Barnes felt like a bit of a compromise, doesn’t feel like a first choice target… don’t get me wrong his stats in a struggling Leicester make me think he could be a very good player, but just think it is him or Gordon up front on the left… so not sure if he is seen by Howe as a starter in his strongest 11 or is bringing very good strength in depth.

Livramento… not seen him play much, and he’s still got to prove it… I guess we see a future with this lad and Ashby as our RB’s after Tripps leaves… but again I get the feeling this might be a signing that isn’t in Howe’s strongest 11

All 3 senior players signed are the right ages, with their very best to come.

    What I struggle with…

We are relying on Miggy performing… and it’s only been half a season out of four and half seasons where he has done that… I thought a right winger was a no brainer.

We really need some cover for Schar… who it sounds like is not yet available, and we knew that going into the window… so we’ll likely be starting the season with Lascelles or Dummett starting with Botman.

Left back… while not a massive priority, if Botman were to get injured we’d have to play Burn in that spot and have to pray Targett stays injury free.

If, as Howe has said, we didn’t have to sell to bring in Barnes then it feels like it has taken a very long time to bring in 3 players, only one of which is likely to be in the managers strongest 11.

We need to move on Fraser, Hayden and Hendrick… they are on big wages so we’ll likely only get a nominal fee for them but freeing them up will release wages and overall spend for FFP come the end of the year… they won’t get a game, or even appear on the bench unless we really get his by injuries.

A concern I have with Howe and his selection of players… and it’s not an issue for us now, but could be… his selections are players who will not rock the boat or cause any issues whatsoever… and that’s great… but assuming we progress as a club then we might have to bring in players that HAVE to be managed, as the pool of players will shrink and we can’t rely on the players being perfect, but will need the manager to bring them together. Maybe Howe will have established himself better before then, have won something, and be more secure in his position… but it’s all been very safe, and maybe that has limited our pool of players, left us over paying and slowed us down.

Sorry, a very long post and am sure there’s a bunch people will have very valid arguments against… but that’s just my take and some of the sh!t I’ve been thinking 😁

No, it's a very good take, Ian-as ever, from you.

You've kind of articulated what I was feeling. I went for a fairly glass half full post and didn't really voice some of the misgivings I have, mainly because we need to remember how awful things used to be not so long ago.

I'm very much with you on Miggy-he may hit another purple patch but the odds aren't in his favour when you stack up his overall contribution during his time here.

I actually think LB is a priority-as well as Dan Burn did last season, I'd be surprised if we get away again with playing a CB at LB to the extent we did.

Another option up front wouldn't go amiss, either-beyond Isak and Wilson, we're a bit light, albeit Gordon is looking promising in a more central role.

Still, there's business to be done so I guess we won't really be able to assess it umtil the end of the month.

All good signings so far. Have to agree with ian though, we need a right side forward and, considering Targett and BDB as left backs, we need a CB, preferably right footed.
Get those and the window could not’ve been better!

One of the takes I've had this window is the confirmation that you get fk all bang for your buck these days unless you can unearth diamonds which I hope our man Dan Ash will do. Load of money spent that would have been a pipe dream a few years ago. Remember finishing 5th and expecting a wad being spent and getting the sub total of Anita? Not only do we need to strengthen our 11 but we need adequate depth too thanks to Ashley. Difficult to do under the rules.
