Used to love this place as a young un when I started drinking
Always a great place to take people from out of town ' country
Sounds like the new owners knew exactly what they were doing, I doubt they are bothered about the insurance, it's about tearing it down and getting permission for residential or business premises built quickly and flogged for a profit

Where were they when the pub was open?
Last time I went I remember the landlord saying it was seriously underfunded by the brewery
Back in the day I remember it being packed in the summer, but it’s very difficult to get to and with people not wanting to risk a couple of pints and driving it’s just got quieter and quieter
They never diversified into good food or outdoor options, events etc

Police should be investigating and taking mobile devices of all owners of the pub and of the company who’ve demolished the building.
The local MP should be all over this and demanding answers.

Police now treating it as arson. Hopefully those responsible are prosecuted and the Crooked House can be rebuilt/recreated as a functioning pub if not in situ then at the BCLM where I'm sure it would be both safe and a major attraction. If anyone on here who is more local is aware of any online petition regarding this could they please share.

To add to the story there was supposed to be a band playing on the night of the fire. They were booked in before the pub closed so just seems like a terrible coincidence......the band name: Gasoline & Matches 😯
